  1. MUG SHOT: Like James Bond, only better. The tale of my polish elf and his (Chanel) Gold Fingers

    February 25, 2012 by pam

You remember how Petah my beloved Polish Elf snagged Gold Finger for me from the Bellagio in Las Vegas with the help of his awesome friend?

Chanel Gold Fingers landed in Manila last week.

    chanelgoldfingers1

And it arrived with a lot of friends.

    chanelgoldfingers6

And on the same day Gold Fingers arrived in Manila, a lovely lovely e-mail arrived from Petah with the subject “Midas Touch.”

    chanelgoldfingers3

The tale of how he got his hands on Gold Fingers.

    chanelgoldfingers19

Let me post it in its entirety.

I’m an avid elf of Pammy. The moment I met her, she became an instant friend. Pretty aside, she’s a bundle of joy. From our fondness of The Big Apple and bargain hunting, to our food trips and sneer fetes, we quickly bonded. We both have an obsession. I won’t tell you mine but we all know about her fondness for cutex.

I never would have imagined being immersed in this lacquered (or crackled or sometimes glittered) world of nail polish. It’s pretty and awesome at the same time. It’s like candy but slightly more indulgent. It can be scary but we are all entitled to one expensive vice.

I can be an enabler and I love spoiling people dear to me. It’s her fault, really… From time to time, I get requests from her to acquire the ‘exclusives’ and the ‘elusives’. I must say, I try not to disappoint and in return, I get handsomely rewarded with love and Boy Bawang.

So fast forward to Pammy’s 2012 must-have list. I occasionally spy on her blog and saw this Vegas ‘exclusive’ from Chanel. I could have sworn, after my previous hunting expeditions, that I would never subject myself to another bitchy Chanel sales rep (I was this close to a slapping). BUT, I was adamant and brainstormed how I can get her the bottle. Fortunately, a happy-to-oblidge minion resides in Vegas. So I sent Pammy a quick email to inform her about the quest. After weeks of anticipation for its release, a flat tire and a trip to the Bellagio, we snagged Gold Fingers. Happy nails are here again!!!

Vegas yielded a minion, an exclusive and a gateway to MDNA tickets but that’s another story. I’m proud of my network, I’m grateful to my friends and I’m excited for Pammy – and thats all that matters!

    :- Petah

Sigh, I love Petah. I seriously seriously do.

The next day, I played with Gold Fingers.

    chanelgoldfingers14

It’s a really pretty yellow gold shimmer.

    chanelgoldfingers18

Gold Fingers has a lot of micro-shimmer.

    chanelgoldfingers35

It also has sparse dark flecks that add depth to the polish.

    chanelgoldfingers32

The finish is almost like Graphite’s.

    chanelgoldfingers21

    Almost but not quite.

    chanelgoldfingers22

I’m not a huge fan of gold – not in terms of polish and anything else, even jewelry. But in the past months, I’ve found myself longing to find a beautiful gold polish.

    chanelgoldfingers23

    And I’ve found it.

    chanelgoldfingers46

I don’t have a lot of gold shades and Chanel Gold Fingers became a fast fave.

    chanelgoldfingers45

It’s such a rich and festive color.

    chanelgoldfingers43

    The formula was lovely.

    chanelgoldfingers31

I like that it was opaque in two coats. But I used three because that’s how I roll.

    chanelgoldfingers34

I brought out my other golds for comparison.

    chanelgoldfingers50

I love how different they all look. Beige D’Or is crazy sheer, Gold Fiction is a true gold metallic and Dior Or Divin is a much softer gold.

    chanelgoldfingers62

The other colors don’t have Gold Fingers’ sexy sparkle.

    chanelgoldfingers57

    Here’s a closer look.

    chanelgoldfingers63

    And another.

    chanelgoldfingers64

    Gold overload.

    chanelgoldfingers66

I played with Gold Fingers and Gold Fiction by adding a layer of Illusion D’Or and I liked how it turned out too.

    chanelgoldfingers65

I might wear Gold Fingers that way.

Huge golden thanks to Petah for helping me hit the jackpot again. Forget James Bond and his Goldfinger. You’re much better.

  2. MUG SHOT: Chanel Rose Paradise and Beige D’Or

    February 20, 2012 by pam

Remember when my friend Miko helped me buy a bunch of Chanels from an Ebay seller in Singapore?

Let me show you swatches of two of these colors.

    This is Chanel Rose Paradise.

    chanel1

I tried doing a little research and now I’m confused. I read on a lot of blogs that Rose Paradise was a 2010 Neiman Marcus Exclusive but then, I saw reviews of the polish on MakeupAlley and they were dated as early as 2005. Whut.

But I’ve decided it doesn’t matter. I’m just glad I have it in my collection because it’s really pretty.

    chanel9

To be honest, I didn’t think I’d be too crazy about this color, I thought I might find it boring. But when I put it on, I really liked it.

    chanel4

Rose Paradise is a pretty pink shimmer with a hint of copper and bronze. It almost looks metallic. Almost.

    chanel8

The formula was lovely. It gave me zero problems.

    chanel2

    I used two coats.

    chanel5

And here’s the best part – bringing this beauty into your life is easy. Rose Paradise is still available on Chanel.com.

    chanel7

This is Beige D’Or, a sparkly beige from 2006.

    chanel11

I know this color is super sheer. And since I absolutely hate wearing sheer polish, I thought I’d layer it over a nude Chanel to make it more opaque. As you can see, that was a mistake.

    chanel12

Chanel Beige D’Or over Jade Rose doesn’t look pretty.

    chanel13

    It’s a milky glittery mess.

    chanel14

Maybe this would look good on someone else.

    chanel16

    But on me, ugh.

    chanel15

Then I thought, maybe Beige D’Or would work well as a top coat. You know, like Illusion D’Or.

    chanel18

But unlike Illusion D’Or which looks fabulous over black, Beige D’Or over black isn’t pretty.

    chanel20

That’s Illusion D’Or on my pinky and ring finger and Beige D’Or on my middle and index fingers.

    chanel22

Beige D’Or is too opaque to be layered over black.

    chanel21

It looked much better over Chanel Enthusiast.

    enthusiast24

Chanel Rose Paradise, I love you. Beige D’Or, we’re not done yet. I’ll find a way to love you. Maybe I’ll layer you over Gold Fingers when it arrives?

  3. POLICE FILES: Dior, Chanel, Digital Traincase and more nail polish bullets

    February 19, 2012 by pam

I’m back with more bullets, lots of them.

    • Remember the Dior Les Violets Hypnotiques Collection that was driving me insane with anticipation?

    diorpurples5

Fashion Polish, one of my favorite polish blogs, has gorgeous swatches of this trio. The three colors are darker than I expected but I still want them. All of them. They are currently out in France but will be released in others parts of the world later this month.

    • I’m sure you know this by now – Chanel released the Roses Ultimes de Chanel Collection right around Valentine’s Day on their website. The set includes Attraction, Distraction, Tentation and Frisson.

    rosesultimesdechanel

Reviews about the collection have been mixed – a lot of people have been complaining about Frisson being too sheer and Attraction being too streaky. You can check out swatches and bottle pics on TheBeautyLookBook, another one of my favorite blogs, here, here, here and here. More swatches can be found on other blogs like Queen of the Nail and Natural N Chic Makeup.

You know I’d usually be first in line to grab new Chanels but strangely, I haven’t gone crazy trying to acquire these. I have a feeling though that the Chanel collector in me will prevail and still decide to get all four.

The collection has started trickling into department store websites in the U.S. but there’s no word yet if Rustan’s will be bringing these shades in.

    • There’s a Chanel collection that will be making a comeback. Les Jeans De Chanel’s three awesome blues will be arriving at Chanel counters around the world in a couple of months – and yes, that includes Rustan’s.

    lesjeans12

    • Speaking of comebacks, keep your eyes peeled for the elusive Dior Saint Tropez. It will be making a return too. (I’m not sure if this color will be available in Rustan’s though.)

    dior-saint-tropez

Aloha has already made a comeback – in a normal clear Dior bottle and not the orange one it originally came in. And yes, it’s out in Rustan’s Makati now.

    aloha8

    • Speaking of Dior, it has released four new colors.

    dior

Already available on the websites of U.S. department stores, this collection is set to be released in other parts of the world in April. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will reach Manila. Because yes, I want them all.

    • Deborah Lippmann’s Fall shades are set to arrive in Rustan’s this month. The Spring 2012 shades will arrive in April. I can’t wait.

    • I have good news for nail polish fans in the Philippines who missed out on Deborah Lippmann’s Edge of Glory Set for Lady Gaga’s Barneys Workshop.

    petahgaga26

Digital Traincase has stocks of the set arriving in April. They’re very limited so if you want one, it would be a good idea to make a reservation now.

    petahgaga38

    petahgaga60

    petahgaga100

I love this set so much. I promise – it will be worth the wait.

Digital Traincase is currently taking pre-orders for a number of different collections including China Glaze’s Hunger Games, OPI’s Nicki Minaj Collection, China Glaze’s Electropop Collection, OPI’s Holland Collection. They have created a Multiply site specifically for pre-orders. Visit it here.

Also, great news. Digital Traincase will soon have stocks available inside the shop Circles En Dots at Rockwell Powerplant’s Hip Culture section on the second floor. Soon you can just walk in and purchase the brands they carry including NYX (and their bestselling lip creams which I love too), a-england (The Legend is now available), Misa, Essie, OPI, Barry M, Depend and more. Speaking of Depend, here are some swatches of their crackle collection which I did last year but haven’t had the chance to post yet. Depend is a Swedish brand that Sol has brought in. I like that it’s affordable and that the bottles are tiny – you can buy a lot of colors without feeling guilty.

    depend1

Depend Pink Cracked Effect over RBL Pizzicato.

    depend5

Depend Mint Green Cracked Effect over RBL Poco A Poco.

    depend7

Depend Brown Cracked Effect over RBL Piu Mosso.

    depend12

Depend Orange Cracked Effect over RBL Fortissimo.

    depend17

Depend Black Cracked Effect over Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want To Have Fun. This one’s pretty unusual – the black isn’t a creme, it’s more of a textured graphite color.

    depend22

Blue Cracked Effect over Deborah Lippmann Lara’s Theme.

    depend24

Black Cracked Effect over Deborah Lippmann Call Me Irresponsible.

    depend30

And my favorite, Red Cracked Effect over Deborah Lippmann I Know What Boys Like. This combination makes me think of Superman.

    depend36

Digital Traincase also has non-crackle shades of Depend available.

You can also purchase polish and other cosmetics from Digital Traincase at this year’s Cosmetologie at the SMX Convention Center on February 21 and 22, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and at the Supersale at the World Trade Center from March 2 to 4.

    • In Polish Police news, I’ve received inquiries about ads lately and I’ve been seriously considering them. I’ve always taken pride in keeping this website free of ads but given the amount of time and energy (and yes, money), I spend on the site, I can’t deny that it would be nice to earn a little back. My friends actually think I’m nuts for running the site for three years now without accepting ads. If I do take the complete plunge, let me promise you now that it won’t be a bad thing. No ugly ads, nothing that would ruin your reading and viewing experience and I promise that they won’t affect my reviews and change the way I feel about crappy products. I will not be a slave to advertisers. Polish Police will always be the Polish Police you know. And think of it this way – more cash will mean more polish for swatching. Right?

    • I did something awesome earlier this week. I finally assembled my new Helmer. It’s white, unlike my old one which is red, and I love it. I also love that I put the whole thing together myself (although Jill did help with a couple of screws – those screws drove me crazy!). I had a blast moving stuff from the old Helmer to the new and I ended up taking fun stash pics which I posted on Instagram (I’m obsessed with Instagram. If you’re on Instagram, find me – pajammy).

    05aced46571211e1b9f1123138140926_7

    • I’ve been trying to make a dent in my long list of untrieds. Just the past week, I was able to wear MAC Imperial Flower and Dior Dahlia Rouge. I’m wearing Chanel June now. It’s my goal to be able to wear every single Chanel and Dior in my collection before June. I will make it happen.

  4. POLICE FILES: Who’s the best polish elf in the universe?

    January 29, 2012 by pam

    So it happened.

Chanel Gold Fingers landed at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

    chanel1

And I didn’t know how I was going to get it.

Petah my beloved Polish Elf did mention he had “a minion hunting for the Chanel in Vegas” but I didn’t want to bug him about it, especially since he had just picked up Dior’s Anselm Reyle set for me. I didn’t want to overwork my beloved elf.

I sent a message to a friend who regularly goes to Vegas in hopes that she was planning to go back soon. And while waiting for her reply, I started telling myself that maybe Gold Fingers will trickle down to other stores (and websites) later on, then maybe I’d have a shot at getting it. I have to admit though that I was starting to worry. Chanels have a habit of disappearing quickly and I didn’t want to miss out on Gold Fingers.

It turns out I shouldn’t have worried.

Because I woke up to find an e-mail from Petah with this subject:

Who’s the best elf in the universe?!?

    OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

Instantly, I knew what he was going to say.

With my minion’s help, it should be on its way. A cartwheel is in order!!!

    : – Petah

My polish elf has a polish elf. How totally insane (and awesome) is that?

And then I scrolled down to find this photo with this funny caption:

    chanel2
blurry but you can just smell the glitter…

    I swear, I almost cried.

Thank you Petah. Thank you Petah’s polish elf. Thank you thank you thank you. I would totally cartwheel and somersault if I knew how.

What a great way to wake up after having nightmares about scary nuns all night. (Don’t ask.)

  5. POLICE FILES: And our Chanel wish list keeps getting longer

    January 27, 2012 by pam

    Karl Lagerfeld, you freaking rock.

Because the Air Chanel concept? Brilliant. Bril-effing-liant.

    chanelair1

Seriously, who doesn’t want to board this beautiful aircraft?

    chanelair2

The Chanel Hate Couture Spring/Summer 2012 show was an explosion of blue. Blue and crazy awesomeness.

    chanelair3

And when I spotted the pretty metallic blue shade on the model’s fingers, I had to stifle a scream. What is that gorgeousness?

And here’s the answer: Chanel Sky Line.

    chanelair4

This shade will be released in July. And you know what’s going to happen. I will hunt it down.

Speaking of Chanel shades that are high on our wish lists, Chanel Gold Fingers is now available at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. I don’t know how but I intend to add it to my collection too.

Chanel is also coming out with seven other shades in the next few months and a rerelease of a beloved trio.

The Chanel fan in me is incredibly happy.
