  1. MUG SHOT: Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet vs. Other Chanels

    October 8, 2011 by pam

My absence from this blog can be explained by two things – one, I am drowning in deadlines and two, my nails are growing at a snail’s pace. Remember how I nubbinized them after my trip to Singapore?

But the break from swatching needs to end. And today, although my nails haven’t grown to my desired length, I spent a good couple of hours swatching. (The YSL swatches will follow soon, I promise, just let me grow my nails a little longer.)

I have great news for Chanel-loving polish fans in the Philippines – the Rouge Allure Velvet collection is now available in Rustan’s.

You’ve seen my swatches of Rose Cache, Rose Exuberant, Pirate and Chanel’s Top Coat Velvet. And now, to celebrate their release, let me post some comparison swatches.

Let’s start with Rose Cache, the pretty rose beige with Chanel’s secret shimmer.

I’d like to think that my Chanel collection is pretty extensive but I don’t have anything that looks similar to Rose Cache.

    comprouge13

Even bottle pics are enough to tell you that.

    comprouge11

    Ming is more pink.

    comprouge9

    Rose Confidentiel is darker.

    comprouge12

    Jade Rose is more yellow.

    comprouge8

    Peche Nacree is more peach.

    comprouge27

And it’s not just bottle pics – they look really different on the nails too.

    comprouge24

    So yup, no dupes.

    comprouge25

    And now, Rose Exuberant.

    comprouge1

I have a number of Chanel pinks in my collection.

    comprouge2

And out of all of them, Pulsion is the one that is most similar to Rose Exuberant.

    comprouge3

Rose Insolent is lighter. Splendeur is much darker. (And I love it, I think it’s sexy.)

    comprouge4

On the nails, Pulsion is still the most similar to Rose Exuberant.

    comprouge35

Both are gorgeous, vibrant, creamy pinks that can work as one-coaters.

    comprouge30

But there is a slight difference – Pulsion is a little lighter and brighter than Rose Exuberant. I can’t decide which one I like more. They’re both super pretty.

    comprouge36

I love how awesome my pink Chanels look when mattified with Chanel’s Top Coat Velvet.

    comprouge37

    And finally, Chanel Pirate.

    comprouge17

I already knew I didn’t have a Chanel dupe in my collection – none of my other red Chanels have Pirate’s crazy gorgeous jelly finish.

    comprouge14

But I still brought them out anyway.

    comprouge20

    I love Chanel’s reds.

    comprouge48

    They are sexy sexy sexy.

    comprouge45

I couldn’t get enough of them.

    comprouge44

Enthusiast is too orange to be a Pirate dupe. Fire is brighter. Rouge Fatale is darker.

    comprouge41

Dragon looks similar in photos but it has too much brown in it to be a dupe for Pirate.

    comprouge43

And Dragon has a cream finish while Pirate is a crazy squishy jelly. I love it. I love them both.

    comprouge47

All these Chanel reds look fantastic with Chanel’s matte top coat too.

    comprouge50

    Love.

    comprouge52

Now I’m excited to do comparison swatches of Chanel’s Top Coat Velvet and other matte top coats.

Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet Collection is now available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.

  2. MUG SHOT: Playing with OPI Black Shatter

    April 12, 2011 by pam

Exactly a week ago, I received an e-mail from Cat Ilacad, president of Posh Nails. She wanted to know if I’ve had the chance to try OPI Black Shatter, which was released with the Katy Perry and Serena Williams OPI collections.

No, I said. I’ve resisted the urge to order it online because I’ve been waiting for it to arrive in Rustan’s.

The very next day, the very sweet Cat sent me this:

    shatter

OPI Black Shatter with Serena Williams’ Simply Smashing and two other bottles of nail polish which I will write about in a different post.

I just had to play with them immediately.

    1

Simply Smashing is a yellow green metallic polish.

    2

People say it reminds them of a tennis ball but I didn’t get that at all.

    3

    This was three coats.

    4

This is Black Shatter over Simply Smashing.

    5

Black Shatter dries crazy fast – it starts drying even while you’re still painting.

    6

I said I wasn’t sure I’d go for the crackle trend but Black Shatter convinced me. I love how crazy and edgy it makes any manicure look.

    9

I decided to try Black Shatter over some of my favorite polish shades.

Here’s Black Shatter over Chanel Particuliere.

    11

Not exactly a good combination. Black Shatter doesn’t make Particuliere pop – it kills the color.

    10

Black Shatter works better with brighter colors – like Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Yellow Fever.

    13

    That’s more like it.

    15

I love how crazy Black Shatter looks on my ring finger – like I scribbled all over it.

    14

This is Black Shatter over Rescue Beauty Lounge Bangin’.

    16

    Looks pretty good too.

    17

This is Black Shatter over Chanel Khaki Vert.

    18

Not as eye-catching as yellow and red but it can work too.

    19

Black Shatter over MAC Blue India.

    21

    I like this combination too.

    20

    I just love Blue India.

    22

This is Black Shatter over a hot pink, Chanel Splendeur.

    25

    Oh yes, it works.

    24

    Barbie gone wild.

    28

    Yes, I like it too.

    29

As you can see, Black Shatter dries matte so a good top coat is a must. You’ll see Black Shatter with Seche Vite in my next post.

If you want to try Black Shatter now, Posh Nails offers their “Crack Me Up” service at their Tomas Morato (CTTM Square Bldg., Tomas Morato Corner Timog Quezon City; call 9265077) and Ali Mall (Upper Ground Floor Alimall Phase II Cubao, Quezon City; call 7092955) branches. Visit Poshnails.com.ph.
