Let’s start with Fashionista.

Fashionista is a dirty olive green creme.

I love love love love love unusually pretty colors like this.

So yes, I love Fashionista.

It reminds me of two of my favorite polish colors – MAC Dry Martini and RBL No More War.

The formula was lovely.

Two coats and it was fully opaque.

Loooove.

This is Holo Blue.

Holo Blue is a blue jelly with holo sparkle.

The particles aren’t obviously holo in my pictures which were shot under artificial lighting.

But trust me, they are holo.

Holo Blue is pretty sheer.

Even after three coats, you can still see my nail line.

I think this would look much prettier when layered over a light blue.

This is Metallic Green.

And yes, it is a metallic green.

A really bright metallic green.

So bright you might want to pull you sunglasses out.

Polish with this kind of finish have a tendency to show brushstrokes so careful application is a must.

Yes, more careful than mine.

I think this color would rock as a crazy pedi this summer.

This is IT Purple.

IT Purple is an intense purple shimmer.

It’s so pretty.

I love this purple.

The formula was nice too.

Smooth and self-leveling.

Two coats are enough for full coverage.

But because I’m stubborn, I used three.

This is Twinkly Love. I think that name is adorable.

Twinkly Love is iridescent pink, blue and silver heart-shaped glitter set in a clear base.

The glitter is sparse, you won’t get a ton of hearts in one coat – you have to fish them out.

This is Twinkly Love over IT Purple.

Twinkly Love also looks pretty over a pale pink.

This is Twinkly Love over Powder Punk from 77kids.

I love how the hearts change colors when you move your hands.

Such a sweet and pretty mani.

I think Twinkly Love would look really pretty over a pale blue too.

I tried doing a little research and now I’m confused. I read on a lot of blogs that Rose Paradise was a 2010 Neiman Marcus Exclusive but then, I saw reviews of the polish on MakeupAlley and they were dated as early as 2005. Whut.

But I’ve decided it doesn’t matter. I’m just glad I have it in my collection because it’s really pretty.

To be honest, I didn’t think I’d be too crazy about this color, I thought I might find it boring. But when I put it on, I really liked it.

Rose Paradise is a pretty pink shimmer with a hint of copper and bronze. It almost looks metallic. Almost.

The formula was lovely. It gave me zero problems.

I used two coats.

And here’s the best part – bringing this beauty into your life is easy. Rose Paradise is still available on Chanel.com.

This is Beige D’Or, a sparkly beige from 2006.

I know this color is super sheer. And since I absolutely hate wearing sheer polish, I thought I’d layer it over a nude Chanel to make it more opaque. As you can see, that was a mistake.

Chanel Beige D’Or over Jade Rose doesn’t look pretty.

It’s a milky glittery mess.

Maybe this would look good on someone else.

But on me, ugh.

Then I thought, maybe Beige D’Or would work well as a top coat. You know, like Illusion D’Or.

But unlike Illusion D’Or which looks fabulous over black, Beige D’Or over black isn’t pretty.

That’s Illusion D’Or on my pinky and ring finger and Beige D’Or on my middle and index fingers.

Beige D’Or is too opaque to be layered over black.

It looked much better over Chanel Enthusiast.

Chanel Rose Paradise, I love you. Beige D’Or, we’re not done yet. I’ll find a way to love you. Maybe I’ll layer you over Gold Fingers when it arrives?

Fashion Polish, one of my favorite polish blogs, has gorgeous swatches of this trio. The three colors are darker than I expected but I still want them. All of them. They are currently out in France but will be released in others parts of the world later this month.

• I’m sure you know this by now – Chanel released the Roses Ultimes de Chanel Collection right around Valentine’s Day on their website. The set includes Attraction, Distraction, Tentation and Frisson.

Reviews about the collection have been mixed – a lot of people have been complaining about Frisson being too sheer and Attraction being too streaky. You can check out swatches and bottle pics on TheBeautyLookBook, another one of my favorite blogs, here, here, here and here. More swatches can be found on other blogs like Queen of the Nail and Natural N Chic Makeup.

You know I’d usually be first in line to grab new Chanels but strangely, I haven’t gone crazy trying to acquire these. I have a feeling though that the Chanel collector in me will prevail and still decide to get all four.

The collection has started trickling into department store websites in the U.S. but there’s no word yet if Rustan’s will be bringing these shades in.

• There’s a Chanel collection that will be making a comeback. Les Jeans De Chanel’s three awesome blues will be arriving at Chanel counters around the world in a couple of months – and yes, that includes Rustan’s.

• Speaking of comebacks, keep your eyes peeled for the elusive Dior Saint Tropez. It will be making a return too. (I’m not sure if this color will be available in Rustan’s though.)

Aloha has already made a comeback – in a normal clear Dior bottle and not the orange one it originally came in. And yes, it’s out in Rustan’s Makati now.

• Speaking of Dior, it has released four new colors.

Already available on the websites of U.S. department stores, this collection is set to be released in other parts of the world in April. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will reach Manila. Because yes, I want them all.

• Deborah Lippmann’s Fall shades are set to arrive in Rustan’s this month. The Spring 2012 shades will arrive in April. I can’t wait.

• I have good news for nail polish fans in the Philippines who missed out on Deborah Lippmann’s Edge of Glory Set for Lady Gaga’s Barneys Workshop.

Digital Traincase has stocks of the set arriving in April. They’re very limited so if you want one, it would be a good idea to make a reservation now.

I love this set so much. I promise – it will be worth the wait.

And my favorite, Red Cracked Effect over Deborah Lippmann I Know What Boys Like. This combination makes me think of Superman.

• In Polish Police news, I’ve received inquiries about ads lately and I’ve been seriously considering them. I’ve always taken pride in keeping this website free of ads but given the amount of time and energy (and yes, money), I spend on the site, I can’t deny that it would be nice to earn a little back. My friends actually think I’m nuts for running the site for three years now without accepting ads. If I do take the complete plunge, let me promise you now that it won’t be a bad thing. No ugly ads, nothing that would ruin your reading and viewing experience and I promise that they won’t affect my reviews and change the way I feel about crappy products. I will not be a slave to advertisers. Polish Police will always be the Polish Police you know. And think of it this way – more cash will mean more polish for swatching. Right?

• I did something awesome earlier this week. I finally assembled my new Helmer. It’s white, unlike my old one which is red, and I love it. I also love that I put the whole thing together myself (although Jill did help with a couple of screws – those screws drove me crazy!). I had a blast moving stuff from the old Helmer to the new and I ended up taking fun stash pics which I posted on Instagram (I’m obsessed with Instagram. If you’re on Instagram, find me – pajammy).

• I’ve been trying to make a dent in my long list of untrieds. Just the past week, I was able to wear MAC Imperial Flower and Dior Dahlia Rouge. I’m wearing Chanel June now. It’s my goal to be able to wear every single Chanel and Dior in my collection before June. I will make it happen.

We were surprised that American Eagle Outfitters had a great line for children called 77kids and I was even more surprised to find that their kiddie brand carried nail polish.

American Eagle also had nail polish for adults but I thought the kiddie polish bottles, colors and names were cuter. There were five shades available and they were $5.50 each.

Naturally, Petah the ultimate enabler said I had to get them all. And I did.

The strange thing is these bottles haven’t gotten a lot of love. I tried Googling them but it’s like they don’t exist. So yeah, this is me attempting to change that. Because I do like these shades.

This is Powder Punk.

Powder Punk is a pretty pink creme.

It’s a soft powdery pink.

I love it.

It’s the kind of pink that would look adorable on little girls and really pretty on big girls.

I have to admit I was worried about the formula of Powder Punk. We all know that pale pinks can be streaky.

But Powder Punk gave me no trouble at all.

I used two coats.

This is Rhythm Blue.

Rhythm Blue is a deep cornflower blue.

I have about three billion blues in my collection so it takes a lot for a blue to impress me. But I really like Rhythm Blue, it’s really pretty.

It reminds me of an old favorite – Sally Hansen Pacific Blue. Except Rhythm Blue is a little deeper and dustier.

Rhythm Blue is a jelly-creme hybrid.

The formula was lovely too.

I used three coats but two would work if you used thick coats.

This is Star Sparkle.

Star Sparkle is a bluish ashy silver foil.

I like how the blue adds depth to this color.

Its name is perfect – Star Sparkle is packed with crazy sparkle.

It’s pretty but I don’t think this shade looks great on me.

Application was easy.

I used three thin coats for full coverage.

This is Gold Groove.

Gold Groove is small gold and larger silver hexagon glitter in a black jelly base.

It looks crazy in the bottle and it’s crazy on the nails.

The glitter is pretty packed, no need to fish them out.

Here’s a close-up.

Yeah, crazy.

Nice formula too, it applied smoothly and wasn’t clumpy at all.

Although there were enough glitter pieces after two coats, I used three to achieve bottle color.

But that wasn’t a hassle at all because I love the brush. The stem was long, making painting easy.

Gold Groove doesn’t dry all gritty like a lot of really glittery shades. One coat of top coat should be enough to make it super smooth and glossy.

Finally, Red Remix.

Red Remix is a bright red creme.

I love this shade of red.

It just pops.

This would totally rock as a pedi color too.

I love it.

Fantastic formula.

It’s super smooth and the color is so rich.

I used two coats.

I love the mix of colors and finish from this line. It’s an impulse buy I do not regret, not at all.

But before I tell you about the surprise, let me tell you about the person who sent it.

I first met Michelle five years ago when I went to Japan for the Die Hard 4 premiere and press conference. When Jill found out I was going to Tokyo, she said, “You have to meet Michelle. You have to.” Michelle is one of her best friends and she’s been based there for years. I was hesitant – it’s not obvious but I can be really shy about meeting new people. But Jill was insistent so I said yes.

I met up with Mich in Shibuya and the first thing she did was give me a big hug. She was so warm and friendly and funny that my shyness just dissolved completely. I got to know Mich really well over the next months and years and she became one of my favorite people in the world. (She’d become yours too if you met her – she’s just the kind of person people easily fall in love with.)

I was a bridesmaid at her wedding and I’m the godmother of one of her adorable babies.

When I say she has the most adorable babies in the world, I am not kidding.

She still lives in Japan with her husband and two kids but we get to spend time with them when they come home for visits.

In 2010, Jill and I were headed back to Manila from the States. We had a layover in Narita and we missed our flight home. One of the best things about being stranded in Japan for 24 hours was getting the chance to spend time with Mich and her family. We had a sleepover in our hotel room and went to the mall the next day. Here’s a purikura photo from that day. (The machine did weird stuff to our eyes. I look like a Looney Tunes character.)

Mich was supposed to come home next month but sadly, their trip has been delayed.

But Mich sent love our way in the form of a box filled with goodies. She had all kinds of surprises for us (ask Tatin what she got – it made me LOL).

One of my surprises was this package from Shu Uemura.

I love that gorgeous silver wrapper. I unwrapped it carefully and saw this.

I was so excited to see this box.

I used to have a few bottles of Shu Uemura polish (I think I had around six or seven) but they all disappeared with a number of other bottles. (This happened a few years ago – I still haven’t discovered who the thief was.) I’ve been wanting to start rebuilding my Shu stash but while we still have the brand’s skincare and cosmetics lines here, the local distributor no longer brings in Shu’s nail polish. So yes, I was overjoyed to see this.

Such a lovely surprise.

This pretty silvery green is a limited edition shade from Shu Uemura’s Novadiva Collection for Fall 2011.

They may call it Mysterious Green but in the bottle, this polish looks more silver.

I’ve been on a metallic kick lately and I couldn’t wait to put this on.

On the nails, Mysterious Green looks more green than silver.

It’s a pretty metallic frost.

It reminds me of NARS Diamond Life. Shu Uemura’s Mysterious Green is Diamond Life’s green sister.

Like Diamond Life, the silver flash becomes obvious under certain kinds of lighting.

Since the finish is frosty, some brushstrokes can be seen but a layer of top coat can cure that.

I loved Mysterious Green’s formula.

The brush was lovely, application was easy-peasy.

Mysterious Green dries super fast.

I used two coats.

I love this polish. I love that it’s metallic, that it’s a unique green and that every time I’d wear it, I’d remember Mich and how incredibly thoughtful she is. I can’t wait to see her again.

Saint George with flash.

Check out the blue and green sparkles.

I love this color so much, I wore it for days and days.

So pretty.

And when I saw how Saint George looked while I was inside the car one afternoon, I just had to take a picture too.

Princess Tears is the second The Legend shade that I wore as a full mani.

I wore it for days and days too, leading Tatin to say, “Wow, you really love that color.” She knows I usually paint my nails every other day (or every day, if I’m lucky).

And yes, I love it.

I wore Princess Tears on a weekend spent in a gorgeous house in the mountains. I was trying to finish reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and the two other books in the trilogy that weekend and I swear, Princess Tears was a huge distraction.

I had to keep stopping to stare at my nails. And why wouldn’t you stare when your polish goes from this

to this with a tilt of your hand?

Craaaaazy.

And finally, Princess Sabra, which was also inspired by the eyes of Adina’s adorable kitty.

Love love love.

I love how it can look almost like a neutral.

But how it can go completely nuts in a second.

Holy mother of holo.

This color makes me want to stare into Tristam’s beautiful eyes.

So pretty.

I can’t wait to wear it again.

And I can’t wait to wear the other colors from this collection.

I have succeeded in swatching some other reds. I’ve had these photos for a few weeks now but I thought today would be the perfect day to post them.

Dior released a trio of reds that I missed out on last year.

This limited edition collection was inspired by the signature reds of the House of Dior.

These shades were not released here in Manila but luckily, Tatin knew I was looking for them and she found them in Taipei.

Actually, she just spotted Trafalgar and Icone at first. But I’m so happy she also found Gruau at another Dior counter.

Gruau, Icone, Trafalgar.

Let’s start with Trafalgar, a polish inspired by the red designs seen in Dior’s couture shows in the 1950s.

Trafalgar is a bright tomato red with a tinge of orange.

I love it.

Out of the three, Trafalgar was the shade I was most excited about.

It did not disappoint.

The formula was fantastic.

I used two coats.

This is Gruau.

This polish was named after René Gruau, the renowned fashion illustrator whose work became a big part of Dior history.

This gorgeous medium red was inspired by an illustration he created from the brand’s fall 1947 collection.

I love the illustrator’s signature can be seen on the polish box.

Gruau is a beautiful red.

It’s a classic red.

You can never go wrong with a classic red – especially on short nails.

Once again, fantastic formula.

I used two coats.

This is Icone.

Icone is inspired by nail lacquer created by Christian Dior in 1955. This deep burgundy is the darkest and most shimmery of the three shades in this collection.

I will admit that out of the three, I was the least excited about Icone. I thought it would be boring. But once I saw it on my nails, I realized I was wrong.

Because Icone is gorgeous.

So gorgeous it instantly became my favorite out of the three.

So gorgeous that I just had to wear it after swatching.

I love when a polish can surprise me like that.

I’m in love with Icone.

Fantastic formula, as we’ve come to expect. I used two coats.

I also wanted to show you all three shades together so you can see how different they are.

And that yes, you can justify owning them all.

I was curious to see how this metallic violet would look in real life.

Sadly, model Ginta Lapina wasn’t wearing it in the campaign picture – she had Ecume on her nails.

I think it was fate that I was wearing a shirt that matched Diamond Life perfectly on the day this bottle arrived at my office. (That’s a-england Saint George on my nails.)

I played with Diamond Life the very next day.

NARS Diamond Life is gorgeous in the bottle.

I love that swirly mix of silver and purple.

I stopped staring at the bottle long enough to apply the polish.

Diamond Life is the only polish in NARS’ Spring 2012 collection. It is limited edition.

This metallic violet was named after Sade’s debut album which was released in 1984.

I’m not a Sade fan but I’m a fan of this color.

I have a lot of violets but not metallic violets so I found this color interesting.

On the nails, Diamond Life looks more violet than silver.

That flash of silver comes out when the light hits it.

There are four things you need to know about Diamond Life.

One, its coverage is amazing. You just need one coat and it’s completely opaque. (But I’m stubborn, I used two.)

Two, with this kind of finish, brushstrokes will show. So yes, careful application is a must. The fewer brushstrokes you need to cover the nail, the better.

Three, it dries super fast.

And four, I love it, brushstrokes and all. It’s an attention-grabber. I couldn’t take my eyes off my nails.

Naturally, I wanted to see how it compares to colors in my collection that I thought might be similar.

I brought out MAC Varicose Violet, Deborah Lippmann Purple Rain, Zoya Adina and Catherine Arley 673 to compare.

And nope, none of them were dupes, not even close.

Catherine Arley 673 (which is a gift from the super sweet Kitty) is a really pretty purple holo, MAC Varicose Violet is a shimmery sheer lilac with a blue flash, Deborah Lippmann Purple Rain is a much lighter purple frost and Zoya Adina is just pure insanity (and yes, a purple-green duochrome).

No sir, no dupes, just purples and violets to love and a gorgeous new gem to add to my collection.

This product was sent to me for review.

NARS Diamond Life will be available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source along with the rest of NARS’ Spring 2012 Collection by the end of this week.

And it deserves to be.

Because my god, it’s fantastic.

So fantastic that when the bottles were finally right in front of me, I thought, “Good god, Adina. What have you done?”

I had seen gorgeous photos and swatches of The Legends online and I loved them but nothing prepared me for how beautiful this collection really is. It took my breath away.

This collection was inspired by the medieval legend of Saint George.

The collection includes seven shades. Most of them are holographic.

Here’s the thing – unlike a lot of polish fans, I’m not crazy about holo. Sure, I appreciate how cool it looks but I won’t go crazy over every single holo out there. But there’s something different about Adina’s take on holo. It’s more complex, more grown-up, more sophisticated.

But why am I telling you when I can show you? Let me warn you though – these swatches do not do these shades justice. Not even close. They are incredible.

I swatched these indoors under artificial light. I promise to find enough sun to swatch these under natural light soon so you can see them in their full holographic glory. All polish shades shown without top coat.

Let’s start with Princess Sabra (Tristam Eyes).

Princess Sabra is a complex pale gold with holo particles.

This shade was named named after the king’s daughter who was unluckily chosen by lottery to be fed to the dragon as a sacrifice.

This shade was also inspired by the eyes of Adina’s adorable cat Tristam.

I love Princess Sabra so much.

It’s such a beautiful color.

And the formula was fantastic.

Crazy smooth.

This is Dragon.

Dragon is a gorgeous iridescent green.

This shade was named after the plague-bearing beast who lived in Silene’s lake.

Dragon is gorgeous. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

I have two zillion greens but oh my god, Dragon is just crazy.

It’s so beautiful.

I love it.

Again, fantastic formula.

Dragon is a one-coater.

This is Princess Tears.

Princess Tears is a lavender holo that has a hint of gray.

I love the name of this polish.

This shade is both subtle and beautiful.

I love how unique it is.

Once again, great formula.

It’s a two-coater.

Love.

This is Ascalon.

It’s a silvery gray with holo particles.

This was named after the sword Saint George used to slay the dragon.

Ascalon is gorgeous too.

This color is much more complex than my pictures show.

Again, the formula was just perfect.

It practically applied itself.

I used two coats.

Brace yourself for Saint George.

Saint George is a teal holo.

This polish was named after Saint George, who saved Princess Sabra from the dragon. He is the patron saint of England, of soldiers, archers, cavalry and chivalry and a symbol of gallantry and bravery.

Saint George blew me away.

I’m serious. I’m in love with it.

This color is just incredible.

You know how much I love it? I’m wearing it on my hands AND feet now. And I haven’t matched my mani and pedi colors forever. But I can’t help it. Love love love love love love love.

This color isn’t just amazing, the formula is fantastic.

Saint George is a one-coater.

This is Bridal Veil.

Bridal Veil is a holographic black.

The polish name was inspired by Princess Sabra who wore bridal clothes when she was sent to the lake to be fed to the dragon.

This is another gorgeous shade from Adina.

I have a deep deep love for black polish and Bridal Veil stole my heart.

It’s absolutely beautiful.

Like Dragon and Saint George, Bridal Veil is a one-coater.

It’s such a rich color.

Finally, Order of the Garter.

Order of the Garter is a bright blue polish with shimmer and sparkle.

It was named after the highest and most senior order of chivalry or knighthood in England. The order’s emblem features Saint George’s cross and the order’s spiritual home is Saint George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Unlike the other colors in this collection, Order of the Garter is not a holo.

And I love that. I love that Adina added that little twist to an already fantastic collection.

It’s a lovely surprise.

Order of the Garter isn’t your ordinary blue.

I used two coats.

To sum up this insanely long post, I am in love with this collection. Completely.

I love how Adina doesn’t just create collections for the sake of creating them, that there’s a story behind the different shades and that she is able to share with us the rich heritage of the place she calls home through her beautiful bottles of polish. I love it.

You’ve done it again, Adina. You rocked my world.

I’ve played with them before and I didn’t want to repeat my layering combos.

So this time, I decided I was going to use black as a base. I picked up Illamasqua Boosh because it hasn’t been getting the love it deserves.

All I had to do was choose between Teenage Dream and Last Friday Night.

I found that even with one coat, Teenage Dream was way too glittery for my mood so I went for Last Friday Night. It makes sense. After all, Last Friday Night was the song that made me really like Katy.

I considered putting Last Friday Night on accent nails.

Then I decided to just go all the way.

Why not, right?

I’ve always liked Last Friday Night but over black it’s insane.

INSANE.

The glitter flashes all kinds of crazy colors and I love it.

And I love how the black polish brings out the blue sparkle – you don’t see that when you layer it over blue.

So pretty.

My nails were ready for Katy.

Out in the sun, you can see the colors even more.

We arrived at the concert venue early and had a quick dinner.

The concert started super late – and when I say late, I mean two hours late. But once it did, holy crap, I forgot about all the time we had to wait.

It was awesome. It was a great show – the set was elaborate, the outfits were crazy (she changed seven times while singing the song Hot N Cold), it was so much fun.

Seriously. I walked into the concert liking Katy Perry, I walked out completely in love with her. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

And because we had spent over an hour looking at giant cupcakes, huge lollipops, candy-inspired dresses, cotton candy screens and dancing gingerbread men, we left the concert craving for ice cream. So we headed to Manila Pen.

And there we met Katy’s dancers and band members.

But sadly, not Katy herself.
