  1. PETAH FILES: FNO 2012: When her Madgesty got dethroned

    September 27, 2012 by pam

It’s been over a week and things are still incredibly crazy for me at work. I feel terrible about neglecting this blog, especially when I think of the big pile of polish bottles that are waiting to be swatched. I will get to them soon, I promise you. In the meantime, I need to keep meeting my deadlines and slaying story after story. Luckily, Petah is here to breathe life into this very quiet blog. In this new episode of Petah Files, he shares with you his Fashion’s Night Out adventure. I really wish I had been there. Hit it, Petah.

There is this crazy (and sometimes ridiculous) yearly phenomenon that happens every summer in New York City – Fashion’s Night Out (FNO). For one evening, the FNO ribbon cuts through Fashion Week. Fashionistas catwalk to their favorite fashion houses, shopping ‘til it stops. A bevy of soirees display celebrity collaborations and, most recently, rock concerts pump up the scene. It’s also a scavenger hunt for the one-offs and one-night-only merch, which are really the draw of this circus.

Pammy and I have been going back and forth with news and events that would be happening around town and plans were seemingly in motion. Little did I expect that Fashion’s Night Out would land on the same night as the MDNA concert, which had been on my calendar since forever. How silly was I to think that nothing would be bigger than last year’s Kim K encounter? I was wrong. The heightened excitement (scrapped), the shopping route (yes, scrapped) and a PP project launch (you guessed it, scrapped) were all in limbo.

I was told by the chief not to worry about her babies but elves can be stubborn. I considered giving up my Madonna tickets for cutex – I was willing to sacrifice the queen. Even though I got a bit stressed (just a little) with the timing, I had a game plan. I set-up Plans A, B & C and did a CHANEL walk-through the day before (it took fifteen minutes from subway to boutique so I knew I can make this work). I even solicited a body double, our friend Ver, in case NARS had a secret polish stash for the night.

Game day came and my war paint was on – failure was not an option. I left five minutes early to catch the early train connection to be in SoHo by 6 p.m. and I had perfect timing. A wall of shoppers blocked Broadway so I had to snake my way to Chanel. Dilemma quickly evaporated as there was barely a queue at the store.

A shoe compliment later, I was handed Pammy’s babies in a jiffy.

I was out of the store by 6:08 and I didn’t even have to use my body-double.

We got to the concert with plenty of time. I have to admit, Fashion’s Night Out was more fun than her Madgesty – I will spare you the details on this one. To add insult, the concert was two and a half hours delayed. I could have stayed with FNO longer, if only.

Other than that, all’s well that ends well. Another mission accomplished and swatches to share.

  2. PETAH FILES: I feel pretty, oh so Priti!

    July 13, 2012 by pam

Petah is back with an adventure with Priti, a New York-based eco-friendly nail polish company.

I have been obsessing about the (nail) polish world ever since Pammy came into my life. Who could resist spoiling her? Every time I come across any cutex-related story, my fingers are tickled. It paved the way to many colorful adventures that span the rainbow spectrum and beyond. My newest adventure is with Priti NYC, an organic skin care line for your hands and feet. Let me tell you about my journey.

Last year’s Fashion Night Out quest urged me to Google which companies had exclusive releases for the said event. It led me to the tents of Mercedes Fashion Week where almost everything seen or worn turns into a sensation – in our case, nail-wise. Every fashion house had their made-for-runway lacquer creations. I wanted to find out if there are any homegrown cosmetics company that cater to the craziness. So I did more nail-buffing and Priti popped out of the roster. They’re more than a pretty face, they’re also eco-friendly.

The moment I saw the Olympics-inspired Red, White and Beautiful For London 2012 set, I had royal plans for them.

I was London-bound so the timing was perfect! I quickly contacted Priti via Kim, its founder, and I was directed to the Eloise, their lovely PR person. I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and help I received. They were Priti awesome!

In London, I brought Priti’s Red, White and Beautiful set and had a blast taking it with me everywhere, tweeting pictures along the way.

After my trip to London, we scheduled an interview. Eloise and I talked about the Priti’s sanskrit affinity. She said Kim had conversations with her yogis and suggested the name. It’s associated with love, out of satisfaction and pleasurable sensation. It’s clever and it sums up the company’s philosophy. We moved onto a double conception – a eureka moment for the then pregnant Kim. She went to get her usual manicure and pedicure treatments and dismayed, she walked out of that salon. Having a heightened sense of smell, it felt almost toxic for her. She was determined to find a better alternative. So, she did her homework and Priti was born.

The company is certified organic. It’s also cruelty-free and vegan. It’s also kid-friendly (see Priti Princess). They work closely with different organizations to ensure the quality of their products. They are determined to make the world a little less toxic, one bottle at a time. Their nail polishes are non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. They come in recycled bottles and are hand-poured. You can choose from a variety of starter kits and collections. They boast of over 100 shades to choose from.

A lot of their inspiration comes from Kim’s travels. They give us collections that evoke different destinations.

They have two Olympic collections – they have the metallic Heavy Medal collection and the more patriotic Red, White and Beautiful.

Eloise pointed out that there are so many countries, the Philippines included, that have these colors in their flags.

It’s a versatile kit that you can use to exhibit your pride.

The current collection, the Grand Slam, is for the sport aficionados. It is inspired by the major international tennis courts.

And for late Summer, Arizona will be the palette to look forward to.

Back to Fashion Week – Priti has shown with Stella McCartney, Carlos Miele, Lacoste and ACNE, to name a few. They’ve also supported up and coming designers, which is Priti cool.

It’s great to get to know and support a company with a cause. It’s so inspiring. Priti inspired to me to bring Red, White & Beautiful to London and I’m determined to bring Priti to the rest of the world.
