A note from Pammy: Deborah Lippmann sent Polish Police an invitation to grab a bite and then watch Wicked with her on Broadway to celebrate the release of her collection at Sephora. The collection includes a fabulous Wicked set that Deborah created to celebrate the show’s 10th anniversary. When I received the invite, I started hyperventilating. One, I love Deborah. Two, I looove Wicked! Wicked is my favorite musical – I watched it once in New York and, because the show is coming to Manila in January, I am planning to watch it a few more times. Watching my favorite musical with Deborah would have been a dream come true! Sadly, I am thousands of miles away from New York and couldn’t make it. But I knew we couldn’t pass up this fantastic opportunity. Luckily, my beloved polish elf and Polish Police’s New York correspondent Petah was ready to step in. And he didn’t just go, he even helped me prepare Wicked-themed presents for Deborah and lovingly wrapped them. But why am I telling you this? I’ll let Petah tell you about last night’s wicked Wicked adventure. Here we go…
Pammy asked me to cover this event and we confirmed within minutes of the invitation. A couple of days later, I was in Times Square to celebrate the release of Deborah Lippmann’s Broadway show-themed nail polish set.
Wicked is marking its 10th anniversary and Deborah commemorated Broadway’s jewel with its very own nail polish set. This lacquer trio is a tribute to the show’s beloved characters and their journey.
The set includes Popular, a pink shimmer that was inspired by the frivolous and capricious Glinda…
Defying Gravity (which happens to be Deborah’s favorite Wicked song), a green creme that replicates Elphaba’s distinct skin tone…
and One Short Day, an emerald shimmer to symbolize our heroines’ journey to Emerald City.
During the pre-show reception, I spoke to Deborah’s colleagues about the collaboration. With HBO’s Girls and True Blood-inspired collections already part of the brand’s rich polish history, theater seemed like the natural next step. Deborah’s love for music and the show (She’s seen it over a dozen times!) paved the yellow brick road for these munchkins.
Deborah arrived mid-chatter and shared her journey with the two beloved witches. With emerald being Pantone’s color of the year, she was worried it would be a cliché but she bottled her hesitation and concocted its timing. She talked about sifting through a decade of costume archives and how that led to her color inspirations. Getting access to discontinued fabrics was a challenge but ultimately, she came up with undeniably mesmerizing shades.
The show was and still is magical – from once-upon-a-time until its happily-ever-after. Lindsay Mendez as Elphaba and Alli Mauzey as Glinda were equally enchanting in their performances.
I was toting Pammy’s new babies the entire night, excited to report back to the chief.
It was a privilege to be in the presence of the nail polish rock star and lacquer wizard Ms. Deborah Lippmann. She was gracious and warm throughout the evening.
And it was thrilling to have enjoyed the show for the third time with her. I felt like a giddy twelve-year-old girl, with wonderful nails.
I am so sure this set will have fans of Wicked and Deborah rushing to the nearest Sephora.
And if you were wondering about our token for Deborah, here it is.
We loved these Wicked treats from our favorite brownie place The Fat Witch and thought Deborah would enjoy them too.
And we were so thrilled to see this photo on Deborah’s Instagram last night.
It was truly a wicked Wicked night.
