This year’s fall collection from Chanel is called Superstition.

Inspired by Coco Chanel’s love for good luck charms, the collection includes three nail polish shades – Alchimie, Mysterious and Elixir.

I had been very excited about this collection since the day I first saw the promo pics. Today, I’m going to show you two of the colors.

Let’s start with Alchimie.

chanelalchimie1

Of the three shades in the collection, this was the one I was most excited about. Yes, Chanel makes crazy sexy reds and pretty pinks, but I love it when this brand comes out with unusual shades.

chanelalchimie2

Chanel describes this as “golden khaki.”

chanelalchimie29

It’s a super shimmery greenish gold with yellow undertones.

chanelalchimie35

I see this shade pull more gold on most people but I think my skin tone brings out the green and yellow in it.

chanelalchimie41

The formula is nice and rich – two coats are enough.

chanelalchimie21

But I wanted to use three for more intense color.

chanelalchimie53

Although it flows nicely, careful application is important because the finish is prone to showing brushstrokes.

chanelalchimie19

Use as few strokes as possible.

chanelalchimie72

I pulled out some Chanels to compare with Alchimie.

chanelalchimie78

Any thoughts of its similarities to Peridot flew out the window when I swatched them together.

chanelalchimie81

Peridot is a lot flashier and is a green-gold duochrome, Khaki Vert is a creme and has gray undertones, Diwali is a true pale gold with no hint of green and Or De Russie is a shimmery blackened olive green/gold beauty.

chanelalchimie83

This is Mysterious.

chanelmysterious1

Chanel describes this as “deep khaki.”

chanelmysterious2

It is a very deep khaki but it’s also more complex than that.

chanelmysterious41

Mysterious is a dark olive green creme with brown undertones.

chanelmysterious40

I also see hints of deep purple in it.

chanelmysterious35

This is a perfect color for fall but it’s also the kind of shade I like to wear all year long.

chanelmysterious39

Lovely formula.

chanelmysterious21

It’s super rich and applies nicely.

chanelmysterious18

I used two coats.

chanelmysterious31

I like to think that my Chanel collection is pretty extensive but I still didn’t have many bottles that looked similar to Mysterious. I pulled out Vertigo along with a few other dark shades from different brands to compare.

chanelmysterious49

Dior Amazonia is a lot more green, RBL Turn It Around is lighter, a lot more green and has that gorgeous copper shimmer, Vertigo is more purple and has reddish shimmer, RBL Fortissimo is a deeper, blackened brown with hints of green.

No dupes here.

Chanel’s Superstition Collection will be available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source in August.

I feel like Mysterious is what I wanted MAC’s Dry Martini to be.

I totally get what you mean :) It took me forever to hunt down Dry Martini but now I realized I love Mysterious more. It’s a more wearable olive green :)

  2. Hilda says:

Oh wow! can’t wait till Alchimie gets here. We always have to wait at least 2 months before new shades come to us :(

    • pam says:

Aww, I feel ya. Our Chanels and Lippmanns are pretty updated but a lot of the other brands get new collections late. When I get impatient, I end up ordering online :D

  3. Nailista says:

I love your comparisons! The way you apply the different tones on your nails make a beautiful sort of ombré mani :D
    I loved both shades too!

    • pam says:

Thanks! Comparisons are always fun to do – I look forward to them! And I always end up wanting to wear all the shades I’ve compared.
