  1. MUG SHOT: Seeing (leopard) spots with Camel and Ebony from Dior’s Mitzah Collection

    September 20, 2011 by pam

One of my favorite things in the world is getting mail – nail mail.

    mitzah1

And yesterday, a fantastic FedEx package arrived from Petah, my awesome polish elf.

    mitzah2

You know how he got me my Les Jeans De Chanel at this year’s Fashion Night Out. But that’s not all Petah sent.

    mitzah3

He also sent this lovely bag from Sephora.

    mitzah4

And the bag contained two very special polish bottles.

    mitzah5

Two bottles I’ve been lemming for months.

    mitzah6

Two bottles I’ve been drooling over.

    mitzah8

Two bottles I had almost given up on.

    mitzah7

    And they’re finally here.

    mitzah9

    Dior Camel and Ebony.

    mitzah10

The two shades from Dior’s Mitzah Collection.

    dior4

The collection was inspired by Mitzah Bricard, Christian Dior’s muse.

    mitzah2

Mitzah Bricard was a leopard print-loving hat designer.

    mitzah1

And Dior honored her with a leopard print-inspired makeup collection that I just love.

    This is Ebony.

    mitzah11

Ebony is a gorgeous gray brown.

    mitzah13

The formula was lovely, like most of the Diors in my collection.

    mitzah14

Super smooth, glossy and opaque in two coats.

    mitzah17

Ebony is a bit lighter than Underground and doesn’t have Underground’s purple tones.

    mitzah20

This one is dusky and has a lot of gray in it.

    mitzah19

    I love it.

    mitzah16

    I think it’s gorgeous.

    mitzah21

Naturally, even though I suck at nail art, I had to try leopard print nails using Ebony as the base.

    mitzah22

    It’s messy, yes.

    mitzah26

But I was surprised at how much I liked it.

    mitzah31

I used Dior Camel to make the spots before outlining them with Etude House’s black nail art pen.

    mitzah33

My mistake was using Dior’s gigantic brush to make the spots.

    mitzah29

It was easier to do with an orange stick – but I discovered that later.

    mitzah28

    Still, I like it.

    mitzah34

    And now, Dior Camel.

    mitzah12

Now I had really high hopes for this polish.

    mitzah36

But oh my god, it was so thick and streaky I almost cried.

    mitzah42

I’m pretty sure I got a bad bottle because everyone else had nothing but great things to say about Camel’s formula.

    mitzah47

And I’ve never seen a streaky Dior polish and I have quite a few. I’m so tempted to write to Dior about this.

    mitzah46

I’m normally really careful about watering down my polish with thinner (I’ve only done it once – and to a Seche Vite top coat and not an actual polish) but this time I had no choice. And even though Sparitual recommended that I only use two drops of their thinner, I ended up using ten to make this work.

    mitzah38

Sigh, Camel. Why did you have to break my heart?

    mitzah45

Of course, even though Camel was stubborn, I knew I had to do leopard print nails using her as the base.

    mitzah78

This time I used an orange stick to make the Ebony spots.

    mitzah49

It was way easier because I had more control.

    mitzah55

I have so much respect for nail artists. What they do is so not easy. (You rock, Sophy Robson. You’re awesome, Rina Alcantara.)

    mitzah68

Originally I wanted to use Konad.

    mitzah86

Now I’m glad I couldn’t find my plate with the leopard print design.

    mitzah81

It forced me to do this freehand.

    mitzah83

I am not good at it but I still had fun.

    mitzah74

And while you will not see any leopard prints in my wardrobe,

    mitzah64

this is a look I can totally rock – at least on my nails.

    mitzah84

I liked how this turned out so much that I can almost forgive Camel for being streak city.

    mitzah73

    I love you, Petah.

You can find Dior’s Mitzah Collection at Sephora now.

  2. MUG SHOT: The allure of Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet (Rose Cache, Rose Exuberant, Pirate + Top Coat Velvet)

    September 19, 2011 by pam

Next month, Chanel will be launching a new range of sexy matte lipsticks called Rouge Allure Velvet.

    chanel76

But that’s not why I’m up at 3 in the morning, unable to sleep because I am to excited for you to see these.

    chanel77

And by these I mean a big dose of Chanel love.

    chanel1

Thanks to the awesome awesome Daphne of Rustan’s, I can now show you the shades from the Rouge Allure Velvet collection.

    chanel7

There are three colors and a special top coat.

    chanel2

    A matte top coat.

    chanel15

The three colors are Rose Cache, Rose Exuberant and Pirate.

    chanel6

    A beige, a pink and a red.

    chanel4

    Pretty, pretty, pretty.

    chanel5

    This is Rose Cache.

    chanel8

Chanel describes this as a “rose beige.”

    chanel9

    Yup, pretty accurate.

    chanel17

Rose Cache is way more pink in the bottle than on my nails.

    chanel18

My skin tone brings out the beige and not the pink in this shade.

    chanel24

This is another shade with Chanel’s secret shimmer.

    chanel23

The formula was nice and smooth. I used two coats.

    chanel19

This is Rose Cache with flash.

    chanel25

This is Beaute Des Ongles Top Coat Velvet. It can turn any polish matte – but you already know that.

    chanel16

This is Rose Cache with Top Coat Velvet.

    chanel26

I love that this top coat gives my polish a velvety feel.

    chanel27

    It’s not chalky at all.

    chanel29

I saw Sophy Robson post a mannequin nails photo using this polish.

    chanel32

I wish this shade was as pretty on me too.

    chanel30

    This is Rose Exuberant.

    chanel10

Chanel describes it as “intense pink.”

    chanel11

    And yes, that’s accurate too.

    chanel33

Now that is a serious pink.

    chanel34

I love how bright this pink is.

    chanel40

    It’s such a happy color.

    chanel42

I have a lot of pink Chanels but I still really love this one.

    chanel36

    It’s so pretty.

    chanel39

    Again, lovely formula.

    chanel37

    I used two coats.

    chanel38

And I love Rose Exuberant matte too.

    chanel43

    Crazy pretty.

    chanel44

And it felt so smooth I couldn’t stop touching it.

    chanel50

    Love love love.

    chanel48

There’s no other word for this.

    chanel47

    Love.

    chanel49

    And finally, Pirate.

    chanel13

Chanel describes this as “deep red.”

    chanel14

    Pirate is a deep red.

    chanel52

    A deep red jelly.

    chanel53

And because it’s a jelly, I used three coats.

    chanel59

    I love this too.

    chanel62

I love how glossy this color is.

    chanel63

    It’s sexy.

    chanel64

    Matte Pirate is sexy too.

    chanel65

    Really sexy.

    chanel71

I love how Peter Philips rereleased this old shade but updated the look with the matte top coat.

    chanel73

    Love love love.

    chanel75

I love how vibrant this red is.

    chanel74

In fact, I loved this so much that I kept it on after swatching.

    chanel70

And yes, I couldn’t stop touching my nails.

    chanel69

Chanel fever once again. And I don’t think it will ever go away.

This won’t be the last time you will be seeing these shades. I have plenty of plans to play with them. I will post comparison swatches soon. I also can’t wait to see how other Chanel shades look with Top Coat Velvet.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet will be available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source in October.

  3. MUG SHOT: NFU-WHOA! NFU-OH Swatchfest Part 2 (Nfu-Oh #44, #45, #46, #51, #52)

    September 17, 2011 by pam

You’ve seen my first Nfu-Oh swatches.

    Now let’s continue the craziness.

This is #44, orange iridescent flakes in an orange jelly base..

    nfu44

This is #44 over Illamasqua Boosh.

    nfu2batch1

    I love this combination.

    nfu2batch2

I love the depth and complexity #44 gives one of my favorite blacks.

    nfu2batch3

    Nuts.

    nfu2batch5

This is #44 over OPI A Good Man-Darin Is Hard To Find.

    nfu2batch11

    I love this combination too.

    nfu2batch14

#44 gives this gorgeous red orange polish an extra kick.

    nfu2batch8

This is #45, a fiery red orange polish.

    nfu45

I feel like kicking myself for not swatching it on its own because I know it will kick ass.

But it kicks ass over black too.

    nfu2batch15

    How freaking gorgeous is that?

    nfu2batch22

I love this combination so much.

    nfu2batch17

    Crazy.

    nfu2batch18

This is #45 over Barry M Indigo.

    nfu2batch24

#45 turned this blurple into a purple.

    nfu2batch26

    A crazy pretty orange-purple.

    nfu2batch29

    Madness.

    nfu2batch25

This is #46, crazy red flakes and sparkle in a red jelly base.

    nfu46

This is the part where I feel like kicking myself. One, I didn’t swatch this on its own when I should have because it rocks and two, I only have one photo of it over black.

    nfu2batch30

But I do have a lot of photos of it over red.

    nfu2batch31

Sparitual’s Hunk of Burnin’ Love which is a bright sexy red.

    nfu2batch33

The two shades look good together – like they came from one bottle.

    nfu2batch38

    Insane.

    nfu2batch32

    And now, #51.

    nfu51

This is one of the big Nfu-Oh favorites and it’s not hard to see why.

    nfu2batch43

    Nfu-whoa.

    nfu2batch45

It’s crazy how many colors you can see in this polish.

    nfu2batch42

    Purple, pink, red, gold.

    nfu2batch44

#51′s purple jelly base is buildable but you’d need around four coats to get it close to opaque.

    nfu2batch40

But getting it to go opaque without too many coats is easy – all you have to do is layer it over polish of a similar color.

    nfu2batch46

    Like Barry M Indigo.

    nfu2batch50

Holy crap. Let’s go with that since I’ve run out of synonyms for crazy.

    Here’s #52, another huge favorite.

    nfu52

    Again, not surprising.

    nfu2batch53

Can you believe how pretty this is?

    nfu2batch52

If I were a mermaid, I’d want my tail to look like this.

    nfu2batch51

But since I’m not, I’ll settle for my nails.

And to make it opaque, I decided to layer it over Orly La Playa.

    nfu2batch57

    Lovely.

    nfu2batch58

I’d love to see #52 layered over other blues too.

    nfu2batch61

I have no doubt it will look spectacular.

    nfu2batch58

    Love this.

    nfu2batch63

    And it’s official, Nfu-Oh, I love you.

    nfu2batch61

And yes, believe it or not, I still have more Nfu-Oh swatches in store for you.

If you live in the US, you can buy Nfu-Oh from Fabulous Street. Each bottle is $12.50. If you live in the Philippines, order bottles from nfuohmanila at yahoo dot com. Each bottle is ₱600.

  4. MUG SHOT: NFU-WHOA! NFU-OH Swatchfest Part 1 (Nfu-Oh #37, #38, #39, #40)

    September 15, 2011 by pam

    Nfu-WHOA.

    Seriously.

I’ve read about this Korean brand many many times, I’ve seen pictures and they’re always pretty but I didn’t realize how awesome this brand was until I finally tried it.

And if you live in the Philippines, I have good news. Thanks to a couple of Nfu-Oh angels, you can easily purchase bottles of Nfu-Oh now – although I’m pretty sure stocks will run out super fast. Find out how to order at the end of this post.

    But first, the polishes.

I’ve decided to divide my Nfu-Oh post into several shorter ones because we might all explode from too many pictures and too much awesomeness.

First I’ll show you four of the famous Nfu-Oh flakies. I decided to layer them over different colors to show you how different they look depending on the polish you use as base. That’s what I love about these flakies – with their clear base you can layer them over practically any shade. They are so versatile. There are way too many possible combinations for me to be able to show you everything but these swatches are a good start.

This is Nfu-Oh # 37 – iridescent flakes with fine iridescent sparkle set in a milky base.

    nfu37

First I layered #37 over a-england’s Camelot, a gorgeous glossy black.

    nfuoh1

The black base made the iridescent flakes look orange and made the sparkle come out.

    nfuoh2

    Pretty.

    nfuoh5

I’ve seen people do several coats of #37 over black, giving it a silvery top coat. The effect is pretty too.

    nfuoh10

But with the milky shade of the polish, I thought it might work better with a lighter polish shade.

    nfuoh7

So I brought out a-england’s Galahad.

    nfuoh11

I love the soft sparkle #37 gives Galahad. I love the subtle pinkish orange shade of the flakies.

    nfuoh12

    So lovely.

    nfuoh16

I think #37 would look gorgeous over a soft pink too.

    nfuoh13

This is #38, iridescent flakes that often look orange in a clear base.

    nfu38

Over black, the flakes become primarily orange but you also see a bit of green and yellow depending on the light.

    nfuoh19

    I love it.

    nfuoh22

This one is very very similar to Gosh Rainbow.

    nfuoh36

This instantly became one of my favorite Nfu-Ohs.

    nfuoh36

    It’s made of awesome.

    nfuoh37

This is #38 over OPI A Good Man-darin Is Hard To Find.

    nfuoh38

Over an orangey shade like this one, the flakes of #38 become a goldish orange.

    nfuoh39

I love how this looks too.

    nfuoh45

It reminds me of our goldfish Bubba. (RIP, Bubba :-/)

    nfuoh43

I love how different #38 looks over different shades.

    nfuoh41

This is #38 over China Glaze First Mate.

    nfuoh47

The jelly base of #38 makes First Mate look a little more purple.

    nfuoh56

And over this shade, the flakes of #38 looked pinkish gold.

    nfuoh50

But you can still see some orange there.

    nfuoh53

I like this combination too. Pretty.

    nfuoh54

And now, #39. The flakes in #39 look mostly green.

    nfu39

Over Illamasqua Boosh, another gorgeous black, this is how it looks.

    nfuoh62

    Crazy crazy crazy.

    nfuoh67

The flakes look green and blue over black.

    nfuoh70

But you see more green than blue.

    nfuoh65

    Love love love love love.

    nfuoh72

How can you not love this?

    nfuoh66

    #39 is amazing.

    nfuoh69

But of course we have to see it over other colors too.

This is #39 over OPI La Playa.

    nfuoh79

    Pretty.

    nfuoh81

The green and blue make me think of globes.

    nfuoh83

    Love.

    nfuoh82

This is #39 over Sparitual Hunk Of Burnin’ Love.

    nfuoh84

Over red, the flakes in #39 look almost neon.

    nfuoh88

    Crazy bright.

    nfuoh90

I’m not sure about this combination though.

    nfuoh89

I love Nfu-Oh #39, I love Sparitual Hunk Of Burnin’ Love.

    nfuoh96

But I don’t think they’re meant to be worn together.

    nfuoh94

    Here’s another amazing polish from Nfu-Oh – #40.

    nfu40

It can get confusing because #39 and #40 look similar to each other because of the green flakes. But they’re not dupes, not at all.

This is #40 over Illamasqua Boosh.

    nfuoh98

The flakes in #40 look blue, blue-green and green – different from the bright green in #39.

    nfuoh99

    I love this too.

    nfuoh102

    In fact, I can’t choose between #39 and #40.

    nfuoh107

    I love them both.

    nfuoh105

Here’s #40 over OPI Funky Dunkey.

    nfuoh108

You can see how blue-green the flakes are here.

    nfuoh111

Pretty although I’m not sure purple is the right color for showing just how crazy the flakes are.

    nfuoh115

This is #40 over one of my favorites – OPI Jade Is The New Black.

    nfuoh123

Flakies are a great way to liven up simple cream polish.

    nfuoh124

They’re great for jazzing up a manicure you’ve gotten bored with.

    nfuoh125

They’re perfect for breathing new life into old favorites.

    nfuoh117

    Which was your favorite? #37, #38, #39 or #40?

    I still can’t decide.

If you live in the US, you can buy Nfu-Oh from Fabulous Street. Each bottle is $12.50. If you live in the Philippines, order bottles from nfuohmanila at yahoo dot com. Each bottle is ₱600.
