  1. MUG SHOT: Wet N Wild Fast Dry 9.0.2.1.0range and Saved by the Blue

    June 27, 2011 by pam

Sprint Asia sent me a couple of colors from Wet N Wild’s Fast Dry Line.

The names are funny – they are all inspired by TV shows. I have a feeling MindyTV will get a kick out of that.

    This is 9.0.2.1.Orange.

    222C_NU_RB

And this is Saved By The Blue.

    230C_NU_RB

And this is how the actual bottles look:

    wnw2

I love how bright these two colors are.

    wnw1

    This is 9.0.2.1.Orange.

    wnw3

9.0.2.1.Orange is an orange jelly with crazy gold and orange sparkle.

    wnw7

It’s pretty sheer – even with three coats my nail line was still a little visible.

    wnw6

    But I didn’t care because it’s gorgeous.

    wnw10

I was amazed at how pretty it is.

    wnw9

The color reminds me of goldfish. And yes, of Bubba, our beloved goldfish who is now in goldfish heaven, hanging out with sexy goldfish.

    wnw8

Thank you, 9.0.2.1.Orange, for continuing my lucky orange streak.

    wnw12

I went from having zero wearable orange shades to a handful in just weeks.

    wnw11

And now, 9.0.2.1.Orange made me love orange polish even more.

    wnw5

This is Saved By The Blue.

    wnw14

    It’s electric blue.

    wnw15

Can you stand the craziness of this color?

    wnw16

    It’s so beautiful.

    wnw17

And the formula was fantastic. I used two coats.

    wnw18

The color reminds me of China Glaze Frostbite, a color adored by many polish fanatics on MakeUpAlley.

    wnw19

But I liked the formula of Saved By The Blue more.

    wnw20

    Love love love.

    wnw21

I liked Wet N Wild Fast Dry’s brush is too – it’s long and easy to use. And the best part? Each polish is just ₱199, proving that polish doesn’t have to be expensive to be great.

Now I have my sights set on Party of Five Glitters. I don’t care about the show – I just think the glitter is pretty.

    glitter

And because I love the shows, I think I also want Everybody Loves Redmond

    221C_NU_RB

    and Gray’s Anatomy.

    237C_NU_RB

Wet N Wild Fast Dry is available at SM Department Store Makati, SM Department Store Megamall, SM Department Store North Edsa, SM Department Store Cubao, SM Department Store Fairview , SM Department Store Manila, SM Department Store San Lazaro, SM Department Store Las Pinas, Watsons Personal Care Store Megamall and Watsons Personal Care Store Mall of Asia.

  2. MUG SHOT: Chanel Quartz vs. Chanel Trapeze vs. Chanel Particuliere

    June 26, 2011 by pam

Oh yes, clearly, I’m in a mood for comparisons.

People have been asking me how Chanel Quartz compares to Chanel Trapeze and Particuliere. Neither are dupes, not even close.

If I were to pick a potential dupe for Quartz, it would be Illamasqua Bacterium. But since I don’t have a bottle of Bacterium yet, I thought I’d show you how different Quartz is to Trapeze and Particuliere.

    compquartz1

And clearly, there are major differences.

    compquartz2

    Chanel Quartz vs. Chanel Trapeze

    compquartz3

Chanel Trapeze is my very first Chanel.

    compquartz4

Released with the Holiday 2009 collection, Trapeze is a silvery taupe frost.

    compquartz5

It is much lighter and a lot more sheer than Quartz. Even with three coats I could still see my nail line.

    compquartz6

They don’t have the same finish either.

    compquartz7

So no, they’re not dupes, not even close.

    compquartz8

    Chanel Quartz vs. Chanel Particuliere.

    compquartz9

I’ve heard people call Quartz the metallic version of Particuliere.

    compquartz10

But I don’t really think that’s the case.

    compquartz11

I would think that Particuliere’s metallic version would be deeper and have less of the silver craziness Quartz has going on.

    compquartz13

The only thing I see them having in common is their sexy taupey madness.

    compquartz12

That and my deep deep love for them.

    compquartz14

    Yes, both of them.

    compquartz15

Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombres Collection will be available in Rustan’s in August.

  3. MUG SHOT: NARS Galion vs. Mavala Minsk vs. Dior Blue Label vs. Dior Blue Label + Dior Rock Coat

    by pam

The search for a NARS Galion dupe continues.

Francesca from Italy mentioned Mavala Minsk as a possible substitute and luckily, I purchased a bottle of that in Sydney last year.

Numerous polish fans also named Dior Perfecto and Blue Label as potential Galion twins. But I passed on both colors when the Dior Rock Your Nails colors hit Rustan’s. Today, I went to Rustan’s to correct that mistake but the Dior girl had bad news for me – they no longer had stocks of Perfecto. Heartbreak.

I have not given up on finding Perfecto. But in the meantime, let’s play with NARS Galion, Mavala Minsk and Dior Blue Label.

    galionblue1

Minsk and Blue Label do not look like Galion dupes in their bottles.

    galionblue2

    NARS Galion vs. Mavala Minsk

    galionblue11

Nope, they’re not dupes, not even close.

    galionblue14

Minsk is lighter and it leans purple, not blue.

    galionblue15

I used two coats for both colors.

    galionblue12

Great formula for both – but that’s where the similarity ends. They’re definitely not twins.

NARS Galion vs. Dior Blue Label

    galionblue3

I have been falling more and more in love with Dior polish these past months – and Blue Label just made me love Dior even more.

    galionblue6

It’s lovely, it really is, but it’s much too blue to be a Galion dupe.

    galionblue7

    So the search must continue.

    galionblue8

I hit the brakes on the dupe experiment and decided to do a full swatch of Blue Label which I just loved.

    galionblue17

    I love the color.

    galionblue18

    I love the formula.

    galionblue19

I even love the crazy wide brush some people have been complaining about.

    galionblue21

Then I thought, “Hey, this color was released with the Rock Coat so I should swatch it with the Rock Coat.”

    galionblue24

    And so I did.

    galionblue27

    And I thought, “Ooh, pretty.”

    galionblue29

And then I thought, “Wait a minute. Blue Label is much too blue to be a Galion dupe. But with the Rock Coat, it would lose a little of the blueness and become more smoky. Maybe Blue Label + Rock Coat will be a Galion dupe! Hurrah, the search is over!”

    galionblue28

    You know what happened next.

    galionblue30

Yes, NARS Galion vs. Dior Blue Label + Dior Rock Coat.

    galionblue31

But I was wrong. The combination of Dior Blue Label and Dior Rock Coat did not result in a Galion dupe.

    galionblue33

The combination became much too dark to look exactly like Galion.

    galionblue35

So no – no dupes yet.

Galion, you are not just undupeable, you are gray, gorgeous and sexy and it’s been over a week and I’m still wearing you. That hasn’t happened to me with any polish in maybe a year. Or more. Amazing.

NARS Galion is limited edition and will be available in Rustan’s along with the rest of the Fall 2011 Collection in September. Find NARS at Rustan’s Shangri-la, Gateway, Alabang, Cebu, Robinsons Place and Makati. Each bottle is ₱995.

  4. MUG SHOT: Orly Pure Porcelain and Orly Sapphire Silk

    June 24, 2011 by pam

    I’m back.

Actually, I’ve been back from the jungle for a couple of days now but things have been completely crazy, leaving me with no time to blog.

And when I say crazy, I am not kidding.

Minutes after we landed, this Thai-German model we were traveling with lost his passport and tickets. He freaked out because he was supposed to leave for Bangkok that same night. And who ran around the whole rainy city with him, going to the embassy, the police station, the embassy again and finally the airport to get his papers fixed in time for his departure? Me. And Jill. It was pure madness – it seriously felt like a really bad episode of The Amazing Race. But the hard work paid off – he was able to leave and make it back in time for his TV and movie shoot.

The next day, the rain continued nonstop, causing floods and leaving a lot of people stranded. I was in the office closing my pages and we managed to escape for a bit to brave the rain and flood to celebrate a friend’s birthday before going back to work. It was 1 a.m. when I finally got home.

Today, the rain hasn’t stopped yet but we went out anyway because Jill has been having crazy dizzy spells. The doctors think it’s one of two things – vertigo or anemia – so we’re staying at the hospital for the night so they can conduct tests.

And that’s where I am now, in Jill’s hospital room, blogging about polish (well, about to) while she’s on her hospital bed playing with her Lego.

Today I have two colors from Orly to show you.

    orlyprecious1

Both colors are from Orly’s Precious Collection for Spring 2011. I’m a bit late, I know, but when it comes to great polish, there’s no such thing as too late.

    orlyprecious2

    orlyprecious4

    orlyprecious3

If you place two bottles of polish in front of me and one’s a neutral and the other’s a blue, I will always always always go for blue.

    But not in this case.

Because Pure Porcelain is just too pretty.

    orlyprecious9

Orly describes it as a “beige creme.”

    orlyprecious7

I can also see a very very very subtle hint of pink in it.

    orlyprecious8

The formula was thick but not streaky. It was smooth and lovely.

    orlyprecious6

And it was perfectly opaque in two coats.

    orlyprecious5

    This is Sapphire Silk.

    orlyprecious12

Orly describes it as a “deep teal creme.”

    orlyprecious13

    It’s a dusty blue.

    orlyprecious14

The girls at the office went a little crazy for this color.

    orlyprecious16

The formula was nice and smooth. I used two coats.

    orlyprecious11

Sprint Asia, Orly’s Philippine Distributor, sent me these bottles for review.

Orly is available at Marionnaud, First Aid Greenbelt, PCX (Rockwell, Ermita, ATC), Watsons (Greenbelt 5, Ayala Cebu), Beauty by SM (Makati, Megamall), Landmark Trinoma, Caswell Massey, Jesi Mendez (New World, Ermita, Park Square 1, Tutuban), Chocolate (Trinoma), Nail Tropics (Serendra, Eastwood) and Pure Beauty (Serendra) for P349.75.

  5. MUG SHOT: MAC Surf Baby – Hangin’ Loose and Ocean Dip

    June 20, 2011 by pam

    Let’s call it perfect timing.

I am posting swatches of the two limited edition nail colors from MAC’s Surf Baby Collection for Summer 2011 just hours before leaving for a three-day trip to the beach. But I am not wearing Hangin’ Loose and Ocean Dip on my nails. I am still obsessing over NARS Galion so Galion will hit the sand with me.

    But back to Surf Baby.

Super shopper Tatin helped me order these from MAC’s US website. They didn’t arrive before my flight back to Manila but luckily, Jill’s mom was there and she brought them home for me.

    macsurf1

I love it when MAC uses special packaging, when even the boxes are super pretty.

    macsurf3

And the bottles too, of course.

    macsurf2

    This is Hangin’ Loose.

    macsurf5

MAC describes it as a “dirty pink nude” but on me it looks more like a peachy beige cream.

    macsurf6

    I used two coats.

    macsurf4

It’s pretty but the color doesn’t strike me as particularly beachy.

    macsurf7

    This is Ocean Dip.

    macsurf8

MAC describes it as “a mid-tone creamy aqua.” On me it looks more green than blue.

    macsurf9

It’s pretty – and yes, the color screams summer to me. It makes me think of pretty beaches, bikinis, flip flops and sunblock.

    macsurf12

    I used two coats.

    macsurf10

Strangely, while the color looks bright in pictures, on my nails, they look a little dusky. I like it though – I ended up wearing Ocean Dip for a couple of days.

MAC’s Surf Baby Collection has been available in the US since May. The collection will be out in MAC stores and boutiques in the Philippines this month.
