MUGSHOT: OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection

June 7, 2011 by pam

Ahoy, me hearties!

First, a confession. I have a twin sister from another mother. And father.

Lala and I were born on the same day to different parents. We’re both named Angela (yes, I’m Pamela Angela). And as babies, we used to sleep in the same crib. Growing up, we went to different schools but still spent a lot of time together. We had sleepovers. We had summers. We had nights chasing our ballroom-dancing mothers. We’ve been scolded together. We went to our first concert together (New Kids On The Block, baby!). We’ve literally been friends forever. Scratch that, we’re not just friends. We’re sisters. Twin sisters.

This is a photo of Lala and me during one of our proud fashion moments.

I don’t remember if we actually did aerobics that day or we just put these outfits on because they looked so awesome.

Lala moved to the US when we were in high school. Still, we never lost touch. We’re adults now (she’s an awesome mom now) and while we live far apart, we always stay connected. And when we find ourselves in the same city, we always make sure we see each other.

When I was in the US a couple of weeks ago, Lala drove almost two hours to see me. We shopped a little, ate a lot and exchanged goodies. Among the many goodies she gave me were all the colors from OPI’s Pirates of the Caribbean Collection.

Before we met, she posted this photo on my Facebook wall with the caption “They can’t wait to meet you!”

I couldn’t wait to meet them either.

Thank you, Lala.

I am happy to say that I’ve met OPI’s Pirates of the Caribbean Collection and it was love at first sight. It was love at first swatch too.

This is Stranger Tides.

I wore Stranger Tides and the Stranger Tides + Look Rich, Be Cheap combination on our road trip across California, Utah and Nevada.

And now that I’m back in Manila, I finally had the chance to sit down for a Pirates of the Caribbean swatchfest.

This is the entire Pirates of the Caribbean Collection with OPI Silver Shatter.

I know many people have said these colors don’t look piratey enough.

pirates4

I agree. They don’t look like anything Jack Sparrow would wear.

pirates6

But that didn’t stop me from loving them. Because these colors are so pretty. Dusky pastel goodness.

And I think Mr. Skull over here agrees.

pirates7

This is Skull and Glossbones.

pirates8

What OPI says: “Best light gray ever, no bones about it.”

pirates9

Skull and Glossbones is a really pretty pale gray. The formula was nice. It flowed smoothly. This was two coats.

This is Stranger Tides.

pirates12

What OPI says: “Explore this uncharted sea of sage.”

pirates13

I was surprised at how beautiful Stranger Tides was. It’s such an unusual green – and I’m someone who has a lot of greens in my collection. This was two coats too.

pirates15

Say ahoy to Steady As She Rose.

pirates16

What OPI says: “This gorgeous pink is your final destination.”

pirates17

OPI wasn’t kidding. Steady As She Rose is gorgeous – surprisingly so. This one was a little more sheer than the others so I used three coats.

This is Mermaid’s Tears.

pirates20

What OPI says: “Few have seen this magical green.”

pirates21

My photos of Mermaid’s Tears are lying. It isn’t as bright as these show. It’s lovely. And the formula was lovely two. This was two coats.

pirates22

Mermaid’s Tears with Silver Shatter. I think this is the color I like the best with Shatter.

pirates23

And now, Sparrow Me The Drama.

pirates26

What OPI says: “This cool, collected pink means business!”

pirates25

Sparrow Me The Drama is a lovely dusky pink. This was two coats too.

pirates24

This is how Silver Shatter looks over Sparrow Me The Drama.

pirates27

This is Planks A Lot.

pirates28

What OPI says: “Dive into style with this lustworthy purple!”

pirates29

I love purple polish – and I love Planks A Lot. It’s pretty pretty pretty.

Those were the six colors and I can honestly say I love every single one of them. Sure, they’re not piratey but they are undeniably pretty.

I bet even Jack Sparrow can see that.

As for Silver Shatter, I need to continue my search for the perfect polish to wear under it.
