  1. MUG SHOT: Dupe alert! OPI In My Back Pocket = Zoya Jancyn

    February 24, 2011 by pam

I was in the mood for orange so I grabbed the first orange bottles I spotted in my Helmer.

In the bottle, OPI In My Back Pocket looks a tad darker than Zoya Jancyn.

    1

But on the nails, they are virtually the same.

    2

    I’m not kidding, the same.

    4

    Seriously, the same.

    5

In all these photos, I had In My Back Pocket on my index and middle fingers and Zoya Jancyn on my ring finger and pinky.

    6

Couldn’t tell the difference? Neither could I.

I purchased OPI In My Back Pocket from Rustan’s Department Store and Zoya Jancyn from OrganicRituals Spa. For more info on where to buy polish, click HERE.

  2. MUG SHOT: Etude House Mattes: Cookies & Cream Gray, Milky Way Purple, Java Blue

    February 23, 2011 by pam

The awesome awesome Stef recently flew to Korea to interview a pop star and she came back with a lot of goodies for me.

    1

    A lot.

It was her pasalubong slash Valentine’s gift.

    2

    Yes, Stef is crazy sweet.

She put together the perfect goodie bag – I loved every single thing in it.

She got me this chicken letter set. Yes, because I am turbochicken.

    3

And rubber duck paper clips. Yes, I have a thing for rubber ducks too.

    4

And chicken puffy stickers. Because I am obsessed with puffy stickers.

    5

Baking and cooking-themed stickers. Yes, because I love baking and cooking.

    6

And nail polish. Oh you know about that obsession.

    9

These are awesome matte Etude House polishes. I didn’t even know Etude House made matte polish!

    7

Here are three of the five shades in the Petite Darling Nails Matte Collection.

    8

Stef chose the ones I loved – yes yes, she is amazing.

This is Cookies & Cream Gray.

    10

    This was two coats.

    11

Tatin was right, it is the color of concrete.

    12

    This is Milky Way Purple.

    13

    It’s a cool taupe-y purple.

    14

    Sometimes it looks brown.

    15

I love Cookies & Cream and Milky Way Purple but my favorite of the three is Java Blue.

    16

    It’s a deep deep blue.

    17

What’s crazy about it is that in the bottle, it has a gorgeous blue shimmer.

    18

The shimmer is so spectacular that you expect the polish to dry suede and not matte.

    19

But no, it’s super matte and super pretty.

To show you the crazy shimmer, I put a top coat over Java Blue.

    20

That’s two coats of Java Blue with one coat of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.

    21

    How pretty is that?

    22

The thing with matte polish is you have to be super fast when you paint your nails because it dries almost instantly. Clearly, I need more practice.

I’m not sure if these matte polishes are already available in Etude House branches in Manila. I hope they are – I know a lot of polish fans here have been wanting to get their hands on matte polish. I will find out later and post an update.

    Thanks, Stefy. You are awesome.

  3. MUG SHOT: Caress Green Minded and Caress Satisfaction

    February 22, 2011 by pam

It’s been ages since I last posted swatches of local brands. So now, here are two.

Some months ago, I bought some bottles of Caress.

    1

You’ve already seen Sea Green and Diamond Gay.

    And now, here’s Green Minded.

    3

    Yes, that’s what it’s called.

    5

The brush was a little wonky but I made it work.

    2

    This was three coats.

    4

Green Minded is a green shimmery jelly.

    6

I thought it would look similar to Butter London British Racing Green but I was wrong.

    7

    Very wrong.

    9

    This is Caress Satisfaction.

    10

    It’s lavender gray.

    12

    This was three coats too.

    11

I thought it would look closer to Sephora by OPI’s Metro Chic, one of the most popular grayed out violet polishes.

    14

But nope, next to Metro Chic, Satisfaction looked super pink.

    15

I like Caress, I like their colors, I think they’re one of the more fashion-forward local nail polish brands. I just wish the quality was more consistent – not just of the polish but of their bottles and brushes.

Caress Nail polish is available at Watsons branches, supermarkets, department stores and Mercury Drug outlets nationwide. A bottle costs around P28.

  4. MUG SHOT: My “Fight the Flu” mani – RBL Mismas + RBL Coral

    February 21, 2011 by pam

I was feeling horrible, my whole body was aching, my nose wouldn’t stop running, I had a crazy headache and the flu was threatening to knock me out.

So when it was time for my manicure, I knew any old color just wouldn’t do.

And so I reached for these.

    1

Rescue Beauty Lounge Coral and Rescue Beauty Lounge Mismas.

    2

I also brought out Jane, Black Russian and Film Noir. I asked my nail girl to paint one nail each with Jane, Coral, Mismas so I could choose one. But when I saw Coral and Mismas side by side, I knew they were meant to be together.

    3

And they were meant to be on my nails.

    4

    At the same time.

    5

I needed nail color that would cheer me up.

    9

My mani needed to be bright, healthy, happy – so I can be bright, healthy, happy.

    7

And that’s exactly what RBL Coral and Mismas gave me – bright, healthy, happy nails.

    13

And like magic, I started to feel better.

    14

My nose was still hella runny, sure, but I was determined to fight the stupid flu.

    10

Oh yes, it’s amazing what a little nail polish can do.

    12

Thank you, Rescue Beauty, thank you, Mismas and Coral.

    17

    Thank you, lovely Ji Baek.

    15

I didn’t think it was possible, I thought I was all loved out, but I love you even more now.

  5. MUG SHOT: Manglaze Matte is Murder

    February 19, 2011 by pam

When I was in the hospital last year, friends and family members visited and brought over all kinds of good stuff. Pizza. Boxes and boxes of juice. Champorado. Crispy pata.

But one friend brought me something even better than crispy pata.

Lele brought me a bottle of Manglaze Matt is Murder.

    6

Manglaze is the nail polish brand drunkenly started by men for men. Their killer matte nail polishes are so cool that women want to wear them too.

    Women like me.

    1

    I love Matte is Murder.

    4

It’s matte but not boring, flat but not dull.

    3

It’s an edgy gritty black that’s perfect for days when gloss is too much, like when you’re guesting on a radio show hosted by five guys.

    You can order Manglaze HERE.
