  1. MUG SHOT: Nars Pokerface

    January 25, 2011 by pam

Pokerface is a limited edition polish that Nars released with its Holiday 2010 collection.

    n5

I picked up mine from Henri Bendel on Fifth Ave. in New York.

    n3

I had to have this polish for two reasons.

    n1

    One, the lovely color.

    n4

    And two, the awesome name.

    n2

Yes, I’m a Lady Gaga fan. In fact, here’s the CD I asked her to sign when she went to Manila two years ago.

It took a while but I finally got around to wearing Pokerface.

    n6

    This was three coats.

    n8

Two was fine and opaque but I wanted another coat for extra vibrance.

    n10

    Application was easy.

    n7

    And the color doesn’t disappoint.

    n12

    Yes, I love Pokerface.

    n9

    A lot.

    n11

And I love it even more because it matches the lilac Dr. Martens Bex, Erick, Xean and Xam sent to me from Australia (yes, they are awesome!).

Nars polish is available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source for P995.

  2. MUG SHOT: Barry M Indigo

    January 19, 2011 by pam

When my wonderful friend Stef went to London late last year, she brought home bottles of Barry M polish for me.

    Photo 312

And that was awesome because I could add them to my growing collection of polishes from Barry M, a British cosmetics brand that’s been rocking my world.

    bday33

I was most excited about Indigo – a delicious vibrant blurple that I couldn’t wait to wear.

    indigo13

It’s such a vibrant color – so vibrant that it’s hard to photograph.

    indigo12

I will tell you now that as hard as I tried, I couldn’t capture the color accurately.

    indigo14

Cuff me if you must – because these photos really do this color no justice.

    indigo11

The color was so rich that I thought I would be able to get away with one coat.

    indigo2

And the color was so rich that I didn’t realize I had only used one coat on my pinky and two on the rest of my nails.

    indigo1

    Stupid, I know.

    indigo8

But I swear, it wasn’t obvious when I looked at my nails. It wasn’t obvious when I looked at the camera’s screen.

    indigo10

It only became obvious when I transferred the pics to my laptop and by then I had changed my manicure color and it was too late to reshoot.

    indigo5

But despite that mishap, I really love Barry M Indigo.

And not just Indigo, I love Barry M.

And the price (just around P200 when converted to pesos) makes me want to buy all the polish colors.

Barry M is available on BarryM.com and at Boots and Superdrug in the UK. If you’re in Australia, the website Crush Cosmetics also sells Barry M polish for AUD $9.95 each.

  3. MUG SHOT: Essie Bright Tights, a sexy chick and a book launch invite

    January 14, 2011 by pam

Yesterday, I was in the mood for something bright so I decided to grab my bottle of Essie Bright Tights and paint my nails a crazy blinding orange.

    2

Like all neons, Bright Tights dries matte so I topped my nails with Seche Vite to get them nice and glossy.

    a

Bright Tights was sheer so I used five coats. Despite the multiple coats, application was easy because the polish dried super fast.

This is my bottle of Bright Tights with my sexy chick.

And my sexy chick and I would like to invite you to my book launch on January 28, Friday, 5:30 p.m. at National Bookstore in Glorietta 5.

I hope to see you there wearing your favorite nail polish shade.

It won’t be a nail polish event but I can promise it will be a lot of fun.

  4. POLICE FILES: Polish Police in Preview’s Jan/Feb 2011 issue

    January 13, 2011 by pam

We interrupt the nail polish swatching for some serious self-promotion.

    Check out Preview’s Jan/Feb 2010 issue.

    1

    Turn to page 92.

    2

No no no no no.. yes, right there.

    5

This issue’s Powder Room features Polish Police.

    3

My top polish picks, my favorite brands and mani-pedi tips.

    10

My favorite tacos, my favorite beer, my favorite episode of House. You know I’m kidding about that part.

And when you’re done with page 92, check out Preview Editor In Chief Pauline Suaco-Juan’s story about cover girl and celebrity stylist Liz Uy.

Thank you, Pauline, Chinggay, Toto, Cindy, Eunice, Omar and Bea for the feature and for making me look like a girl. That doesn’t happen a lot.

And thank you, Bea, for using Khloe Kardashian as the peg for my hair. I had to Google her after the shoot. She may have problems with alcohol but she does have lovely hair.

Preview magazine is available at magazine stands and bookstores nationwide.

  5. MUG SHOT: Nars Desperado

    January 11, 2011 by pam

For Spring 2011, François Nars created Desperado, which he describes as “an antique brass-hued nail polish that evokes the drama of the outlaws from the American frontier.”

    des

Here is Desperado, worn by model Iris Strubegger, who François says embodies Nars’ Spring 2011 collection.

Thanks to our lovely friends from Rustan’s, Polish Police got an early bottle of this limited edition color.

    des1

    Awesome.

    des3

    Here is Desperado with flash.

    des7

    And without flash:

    des6

    And here are swatches.

This is Desperado in natural light.

    des9

    Application was a breeze.

    des11

Desperado is very easy to work with.

    des12

I didn’t have problems with streaking at all.

    des10

I needed to use three coats for full opacity.

    des13

And here is Desperado with flash:

    des15

    Check out that sexy sheen.

    des16

    It’s gold, it’s brass, it’s caramel.

    des16

    It’s all of the above.

    des18

Despite the fact that it was inspired by antique brass, Desperado looks very modern.

    des17

    Almost futuristic.

    des19

Desperado is a unique shade, I don’t have anything remotely close to it.

    des20

At first I thought it would look similar to Nars Mash (another Nars color I just love) or Chanel Or De Russie but I was wrong.

Even in the bottle, the three look very different.

    des21

    Desperado is clearly lighter.

    des22

And it clearly has so much more yellow in it.

    des24

More Desperado, Mash and Or De Russie porn.

    des23

From left: Chanel Or De Russie, Nars Desperado, Nars Mash.

    des26

The difference is just as obvious on the nails.

    des28

I am wearing Nars Desperado on my ring finger and pinky.

    des29

Nars Mash on my middle finger.

    des30

And Chanel Or De Russie on my index finger.

    des31

But I know I didn’t need to tell you that.

    des32

I can’t wait to rock metallic nails with Desperado.

    des33

Nars Desperado and the rest of Nars’ Spring 2011 collection will soon be available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source. You can purchase Nars Desperado for P995.
