  1. MUG SHOT: Misa Toxic Seduction

    May 31, 2010 by pam

There’s nothing wrong with Misa Toxic Seduction. Nothing.

A lot of people like it. A lot of people have declared it their favorite shade from Misa’s Poisoned Passion collection. A lot of people had it on their list of lemmings. A lot of people love it.

    But I don’t. And I don’t know why.

    Misa Toxic Seduction

Misa Toxic Seduction is a dark green shimmer. In the bottle, the color is promising – a sexy deep green with ribbons of silver.

    Misa Toxic Seduction

I should love it, I really should, because I love green polish, I love dark polish and Toxic Seduction is both.

    Misa Toxic Seduction

But on my nails, it’s just dull, dull, dull.

    Misa Toxic Seduction

I did like it a little more when it was wet.

    Misa Toxic Seduction

And I do like it a lot more underwater.

    Misa Toxic Seduction

But I still don’t love it. I’ve only had it on for three days and I already want it off.

Sigh. Misa Toxic Seduction, I really thought I would love you. And trust me, I really tried.

  2. MUG SHOT: OPI Fiercely Fiona

    May 29, 2010 by pam

After weeks of waiting, my last TransDesign haul finally arrived.

Inside the box, among other bottles, were four colors from OPI’s Shrek Forever After collection.

    OPI Shrek Forever After Collection

That’s Fiercely Fiona, Who The Shrek Are You?, Ogre-the-Top Blue and Funky Dunkey.

    OPI Shrek Forever After Collection

I didn’t get Rumples Wiggin and What’s With The Cattitude because I don’t normally go crazy over pastels (although I fear that this will change very soon).

The bottles arrived too late for me to push through with my original plan – I was going to watch the new Shrek movie while wearing Who The Shrek Are You? – but I still wanted a Shrek manicure.

    OPI Shrek Forever After Collection

It was a toss-up between Who The Shrek Are You? and Fiercely Fiona. I love Funky Dunkey and Ogre-the-Top Blue but I’ve worn similar colors before and wanted something different.

I ended up with Fiercely Fiona.

    OPI Fiercely Fiona

If I said the application was a dream, I’d be lying my ass off.

    OPI Fiercely Fiona

    It’s crazy streaky.

    OPI Fiercely Fiona

But I love it anyway because it’s such a happy color.

And it’s my first time to wear yellow nail polish. (Unless you count that time in college when I went crazy over neon.)

And it matches the corn I ate at dinner the other night.

    OPI Ogre the Top Blue

And you know OPI’s Shrek collection is good because even Jill who very rarely wears nail polish couldn’t resist wearing Ogre-the-Top Blue.

Yes, I love OPI’s Shrek Forever After collection. I might even pick up Rumples Wiggin and What’s With The Cattitude eventually.

I just have one qualm. Why didn’t they come out with a Gingy-inspired color?

I love this little guy. And I can totally see myself rocking the gingerbread look on my nails.

  3. POLICE FILES: Got Milky?

    May 22, 2010 by pam

Jill isn’t a big fan of my nail polish addiction.

    She thinks it’s crazy.

But just because she thinks it’s crazy doesn’t mean she doesn’t join in on the fun sometimes.

Check out what she gave me today:

Tony Moly Milky Orange, Milky Mint, Milky Yellow

    Love, love, love.

These look good enough to eat.

  4. MUG SHOT: China Glaze Recycle

    by pam

China Glaze Recycle jump-started my love for gray polish.

Although it was first released in 2008 along with the rest of China Glaze’s Ecollection, I only got mine late last year. I ordered it from 8ty8beauty, had it shipped to Las Vegas and I asked my mom to bring it home with her to Manila.

I’ve been really excited about it – but I only got around to using it now. For months, it’s been eclipsed by flashier colors.

Now I regret waiting so long to wear it because I love it.

    China Glaze Recycle

I love it in the sunlight, I love it indoors too.

    China Glaze Recycle

The application was smooth and easy.

    China Glaze Recycle

And I love that it’s a true gray and that it’s a cream.

    China Glaze Recycle

And I love how glossy it is.

Recycle made me love two things I already love even more – China Glaze and gray polish.

    China Glaze Recycle

I can’t wait for my bottle of American Apparel Factory Gray to arrive. And I will continue to believe that I will be able to get a bottle of Sally Hansen Wet Cement. It will happen. It will.

For now, I’m happy with my China Glaze Recycle.

  5. MUG SHOT: Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D’or

    May 18, 2010 by pam

Dear Chanel, you know I love you. But why do you have to challenge my love?

After a few weeks of waiting, my bottles of Chanel Black Velvet and Illusion D’or arrived from the US.

Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D'or

Naturally, I wanted to play with them immediately.

Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D'or

I painted my thumbnail with Chanel Black Velvet. Wow, I thought, this is really creamy. It flowed like butter. And when it dried, it wasn’t an ugly flat matte – it had a smooth satin sheen.

Then I painted Illusion D’or over Black Velvet – because that’s why you get these polishes together, they’re supposed to be perfect for layering.

Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D'or

I was disturbed. I just did not love it. Every other nail polish blogger has declared mad passionate love for the combination of Chanel Black Velvet and Illusion D’or, why was I not going crazy?

I will probably like it better in the sun, I told myself.

The next day, my manicurist did her thing. Except she didn’t do it very well, the application was messy. Still, I was willing to give my manicure a chance – I just needed some sun.

Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D'or

But I spent quite a bit of time in the sun and I still didn’t love it.

Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D'or

    I tried to find explanations.

Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D'or

Maybe the application was just too messy. Maybe I’m just really not a fan of glitter.

Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D'or

It just looked dirty to me – and not in a good way.

But I still wanted to give my manicure a chance so I wore it out clubbing.

Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D'or

I loved that my polish kind of matches my shoes but I still didn’t love it.

Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D'or

Nope, still not in love with it.

And then the next day, it started coming off in chunks. I swear, nail-shaped chunks of polish started peeling off. I don’t know if it’s because of Seche Vite, I don’t know if it’s because I went for a dip in the pool, I don’t know if it’s because it didn’t feel my love but my Chanel Black Velvet + Illusion D’or just started coming off three days into my manicure.

So yes, I’m really not in love.

But I will not get rid of my bottles – at least not yet – because I believe in second chances.

Besides, Nouvelle Vague is finally hitting local Chanel counters very soon and I have a feeling Illusion D’or will look fantastic over it.
